Integrated music storage?

Anyone knows of Garmin planning integrated music storage (with bluetooth connection to headphones) on the future Forerunner-series (successors to 235 / 630)?
This is something I'm really missing. Don't want to take the phone with me while running....

Thanx!

Dave.
  • That would be an awesome feature!
  • That alone would be a no-brainer for me to upgrade my 235.
  • There's not much memory on these devices. No place to store music. It won't happen.

They only have a few MB's of storage for everything....
  • Think the question was more on future devices than the possibility for the current ones.

Surely must happen at some point. Why I still use my MotoACTV of 2011 vintage for golf and that had this capability.
  • A 64 GB SD Micro card is pretty tiny already ... I would put up with a slightly thicker watch, but then perhaps streaming music from the watch would kill the battery quick ... ? Also, maybe something to read/write to the card takes up space as well ... ? Dunno, but I'd love to be able to pop a SD card in and out ... that would be ideal

True, for future devices it might be possible, but by then the devices would need much more memory or internet service so they could stream.... And you'd also need more battery just for the music...

Until then, my iPod Nano is just fine, as it's got about 10 gb of tunes! :)

On the TomTom Spark Cardio+Music, the estimated battery life is halved when music playback is enabled.

You can forget about a wearable device with 5‑ATM or even 3‑ATM water resistance, then, even if the SD card itself is waterproof. Still ideal? Definitely not ideal for me; the lack of water resistance is the reason why all current FitBit device models are rejected from consideration.

Good point! Yeah, water resistance is tres important as I am in the pool almost everyday. However, it seems to me that building 32 or 64 GB memory into the unit wouldn't be too hard based on the size of current SD cards (meaning it doesn't seem it would take up too much space) and music could be transferred via Garmin Express or some other type of sync. I realize this will never happen with the FR 235 but hopefully on a future model ... that might just be something to convince me to upgrade.

  • Out of interest why did you opt for a watch with no swim features if you swim everyday?
  • Embedded SD card is called eMMC. It would be easy to add. The only issue is the cost, just think how much adder Apple put on devices as they jump in storage space and you will get an idea.
