Step Goal Notification?

FR235 (or FR230) Am I missing something? Think other models show fireworks, personally I always liked the simple vibrate on my wrist when I reached my step goal for the day. I have not been able to find that feature in my 235. Is it there?

(If set)Signal when you don't move, signal at each mile(lap), but no something when I reach my goal?
  • Don't worry Buckizard, ASmugDill is just demonstrating some of his own shortcomings.

Edit: I would also like to get a buzz or something when goal is reached ... don't need fireworks, just something that let's me know I got there. Don't like it, then don't activate it

  • Your responses have been horrible and absolutely zero help.

Please don't take it personally - A thread's not a thread on this until ASmugDill has pointed out why you are an idiot/moaner/general annoyance and he is so much better than you in every way.
  • What happens with other devices mid proper timed run when you reach your steps goal? I can see why dedicated activity trackers have a fanfare as steps is largely all they do.

Can certainly see why this would be nice to have for some but don't recall seeing it on any Forerunner.

I seem to remember on the Fenix 3, it gave the Goal alert even during an activity. It only took a second or two, so didn't really interrupt the run too much. I must admit, much as it is a bit of a gimmicky touch, it was something I always liked to see (I'm sure I was making up for being ignored as a kid, or something) and its omission has bugged me way more than it should do from day one with the 235.

On the flip side, I can totally understand how having the fireworks go off right at an important moment in a workout could be extremely annoying to others.

With the va, you get a toast that says "goal" if you are recording an activity. (not annoying at all, but you can't disable it). On the va-hr, you get footsteps walking over your screen during an activity for 20 or so seconds (I find it annoying), and probably something similar for the floors or active minutes goals. On the va-hr you can turn off goal alerts while you're recording or all together though...
  • Customization of faces and fields are also not a requirement for an activity tracker - what's your point?
My point is that not providing celebratory alerts does not make a wearable step/activity tracking device fall short of what such devices are designed and marketed to do, just as a watch does not need to provide time-of-day alarms to fulfil the functional requirements of being a wrist-worn timepiece, irrespective of how many models of watches in the market do provide alarms. My mid-range Swiss chronograph doesn't even tell me the date; what a dud!

I don't know about other Garmin devices, but on one competing product that I used to have, when an alert when you have reached your daily tracking goal and a badge is displayed on the clock screen was introduced as a feature in a firmware update six months after market release, it triggered quite a few reports – I counted seven or eight, at a glance – in the discussion forum that the alert refused to stop or be dismissed mid-run, and basically ruined several users' tracked runs. (I haven't gone back to check whether the users whose runs were ruined were the same users who complained about the lack of the feature in the first place.)
