  • Well, as soon as I hit reply last, I see another beta version is available. Looks like it might fix some of the character and display issues.

Changes made from version 5.03 to 5.04:
    Several Connect IQ 1.3.0 improvements.
Known Issue: Some text on some Connect IQ watch faces may not display correctly.
  • Drives me crazy " several bug fixes". TELL US WHAT THEY ARE!!!! These might be affecting people and it would be nice to know it has been fixed. Nothing to be ashamed of. It is software, software has issues. There isn't a piece of software on the planet that doesn't have something going wrong under certain conditions.
As I have said before I manage a Technical Support team in the health industry. Bugs in our software put patients lives at stake. You better believe we publish fixed defects in the software so the Hospitals we deal with know we are all over it
Every Support orgnization I managed, ut out detailed informaion about the "Bug Fixes" baffles me why Garmin tried t hide it.
It puts it up front so the customer base can understand, and they know you are not hiding anything UGH!!!
The lack of transparency is going to be Garmins worst enemy for the future.
Been a huge Garmin fan since the early 2000's with a 201, but the newer products seem more buggy as they add capabilities and function. Hiding fixes, is telling me there are issues they don't want us to know about, which brings to question the accuracy and dependability of the product. May be a bit harsh, but if you look at the overall tone of this board, it is there.
Being in Silicon Valley there are a lot of upstarts coming, that will give Garmin a run for their money. I know of two that will gather not only activity but health information, at an equal or better price point. I will take a serious look at them before I would do another Garmin.
So Garmin let's get a little more transparent about those infamous non descript bug fixes.
  • But issues with a Garmin watch aren't life threatening.

As an IT manager myself I often would not list every single change in a release note.

That said, it's pretty rare for something you can actually verify as a problem with a Garmin watch not being listed in the release notes and/or discussed here.
  • I installed beta version 5.04 yesterday, charged 'er up and went for a run. Everything looks good at the moment with the HRM during an activity. Heart rate lock was quick.

    Two possible issues:

    1. Battery life may have taken a step back. It was fully charged yesterday afternoon and is sitting at 40% currently in less than 24 hours. I'll keep my eye on it.
    2. My resting heart rate is all over the place. Last night the RHR was showing 40 on the device when my Low was 62 (see attached). Today RHR is 52, while my low is 54. My RHR is typically in the very low 50's. I'm not sure what's going on, but I'll keep watching it.
