GPS not working fine

Hi all,

I've been training for many weeks with the 235 but since I've changed the watch face (with a 3rd party one) it seems like the GPS is not connecting properly to the satellites (more than 15 minutes yesterday!), and what annoys me most is that the satellites "cache" doesn't seem to exist. I use to run in the same places, big avenues, clear sky and sunny day and not many high buildings, so there shouldn't be much "noise" to get the GPS signal.

Does any of you have suffered the same issue? What should I do to fix it? Should I have to set the watch face to the original one?

Thanks!
  • I use Countdown! as the watch face on my FR235 most of the time, and it's never been/caused an issue with respect to getting a GPS signal fix.
  • Perhaps you might want to swap back to the default watch face, to see if the GPS locating process can get better?

If so, then that must be the 3rd-party watch face's problem...
  • When is the last time you synced your watch with your phone or your computer? For quick GPS fix, the watch needs a file (at least weekly) that is updated when it syncs...

To my laptop 1 week ago. To my mobile phone, every day as I'm tracking my steps, apart from the days where I use to run (3 or 4 times per week), so I use to do it very often. I'm trying to go back to the original watch face, but if that means I can't use any other watch face (or that one), then I think this is not a good fix.

    Any other suggestion, please?

    Thanks in advance to everyone!

You definitely need to do a laptop sync, the mobile sync doesn't do the same satellite update. If you only connected a week ago, that's enough to need to do it again.

Ok, I've changed back the watch face to the default (Digital) and synced to my laptop to download the latest updates and now seems to work better. But then I have 2 questions:
    - Does this mean that if I want a new watch face then I'll lose some of the features or it will work slower/worse?
    - Do I have to connect the watch to a computer every week?

If both answers are affirmative, then I think WE have a problem with this device.

    Thanks to all!

Watch faces, widgets and apps are created by developers using open source. A watch face is designed to work with no loss in features, but in some cases it may inadvertently interfere. As far as connecting to a computer weekly, I fail to see how this would be a device problem unless one doesn't own a computer. I have gone up to two weeks without connecting to a computer several times and I haven't had any issues.

You should have tried both solutions independently to isolate where the issue is coming from. I'm almost certain that connecting to your computer has fixed the problem and it has nothing to do with the watch face.

With regards to the second point, I don't think you have to connect it to a computer once a week. Surely a more sensible approach is to wait until you find it's taking too long to connect with GPS and then connect it with a computer (which is like a 1 minute effort) to sort the issue?

Ok, thank you for helping me with this. I'll try to use the watch face (that was one of the most downloaded) to see if the updates from my computer fixed that issue.

    Thanks one more time
