Any ideas on how to fix it? HR workouts won't work when it won't get find you HR. Worst thing is, if you pull the widget, it finds it fine.

I normally get into activity screen 5-10 mins before actually get on running (or before warm-up/stretch), just to let it lock on HR. It can takes up to 10 mins for this job :(

    ASmugDill says
"You don't and cannot fix it; you can only learn to accept that it takes time, and wait for the watch to lock on to your current heart rate while you prep an activity, before you start the timer and get going."

From when I bought the watch several months ago until the day before the 4.20 update the HR would only take a few seconds to appear before an activity. From the day after the update I cannot get a HR display even after 20 minutes. It works if I do a hard reset but I then have to enter all my personal data and settings. I don't believe that it is a coincidence. It was caused by the software update and so can be fixed by a software update.

So, please re-read what I wrote. “You don't and cannot fix it.” Garmin can, perhaps. madchet can't. You can't. I can't. All you and madchet and I can do is deal with the situation as it is now, especially if we have no influence or leverage over Garmin to ‘fix’ it.

As stated earlier, you cannot personally fix it. What you can do is voice your dissatisfaction with Garmin by calling and emailing them. As one who purchased their 235 with the first released firmware, I can tell you the latest update is definitely the cause. A HR fix was almost immediate prior to the last FW update. Waiting 5-20 for a HR fix is unacceptable in my opinion. Unfortunately, too many users have become content with the shortcomings of the latest release and say nothing. If more people expressed their concerns with Garmin, there's a good chance it would be corrected.

Although I have found a work-around that works for me every time, I agree, Garmin needs to fix this. I've posted this many times up here, but in case Search isn't being used or working: For me, before I enter my activity I get a lock on my HR on the default widget (always takes less than 30 seconds). Once I get a solid HR icon, I can enter my activity and I have a HR lock there as well (immediately). Like I said, for me this works every time ... maybe I am lucky ... I have never had the patience to wait to see how long it will take to lock if I try the activity first (I've waited about 5 minutes max one time).

@ Garmin - if I can get a lock within seconds using the widget, why not the same when entering an activity?

I complained about this bug after 4.20 release, that was on April, I think. I opened a few support tickets, a few threads on forum and still waiting an answer from there.
This is a really common issue and Garmin don't care. Each time they have a major bug, it takes years to fix it, and then, they just release a new product.
Innovative product, but stone age support.

I too contacted Garmin about this issue. My point is if there's only a handful of people contacting Garmin about an issue that a large number of people are having, it will most likely fall on deaf ears.

You're lucky then -- I tried that (and have since) and it doesn't do anything to make it work. They've broken the watch at this point. HR workouts are useless if your HR watch can't find you bloody HEARTRATE.
