Lost Bluetooth after upgrading to 3.30

Got my 235 connected to Garmin Connect Mobile, see an update for the watch.

Right after the update, watch can never connect to the phone any more. Initially it shows "nRF51822" in the device list. Then after a watch reboot, it won't even show up in the device list any more, even though Bluetooth is turned on

Any suggestion is appreciated
  • I've updated the firmware to version 4.6 now, using Garmin Express. Everything looks fine through Garmin Express.

However, it still won't connect to my iPhone through BlueTooth, no show in device list.

I even turned on the BlueTooth on my iPad, and "Forerunner 235" is not showing up in the device list either.

So weird... anybody has any idea? Or is this a defect one? Do I have to return it?
  • All right, spent an hour or so browsing through old posts, seems that this is a repeated question - every time Garmin releases a new firmware, some of us (the unlucky ones) will get hit with losing BT connectivity.

The most straight-forward solution is: to restore your watch into Factory Default. However before you do this, make sure to connect via Garmin Express and get your run/data backed out/synced into Garmin Connect account, otherwise you are losing your data.

It's a shame that they didn't add this into the FAQs.

It's a crime that Garmin did this to us, making a flaky software update that cost me several good hours of my life!
  • Try a reset first:

Hold power button for 15 seconds.
    The device turns off.

Hold power button for one second to turn on the device.

Thanks. Tried that already, numerous times actually, not working.

My understanding is, somehow regardless how the reset works, the watch just "remembered" that it has already been paired, and refuse to get into pairing mode again, hence even not showing up in the device list.

It took nothing but a factory reset to get things straightened out in the end.
  • At least the reset to factory settings helped

    I lost bluetooth too.

I upgraded to 3.30, but I upgraded my android phone from 5.1 to 6.0 too, so I don't know if the problem may be caused for the android update.

    Reseting the garmin doesn´t works.

I tried the factory reset, also selected Yes on the question to delete all user data, after the reset I was still on 4.6 and all data was still on my watch and of course still no connection on bluetooth.

Do I understand it correctly that a "factory reset" is a "hard reset" which is as follows:

    1) Turn off the Forerunner by pressing and holding the “Power” button (top left), then select “Yes”
    2) Press and hold the “Circle Arrow” button (bottom right button)
    3) While continuing to hold the “Circle Arrow” button, press and hold the “Power” button
    4) Select “Yes” when prompted

    No.
    • Hard reset = ‘Resetting the Device’ procedure in the Owner's Manual
    • Factory reset = ‘Restoring All Default Settings’ procedure in the Owner's Manual
  • CHEMIN Bosch

    I lost bluetooth too.

"Reset" won't work. "Restore to Factory Default" will work. They are different

The steps above is RESETTING. In order to Restore to Factory Default, you'll need to go through Menu -> Setting -> System -> Restore Defaults
