Calories and Steps wrong

Using my FR235 I today walked 11586 steps but Garmin only gave be 121 active calories. This seems far to low to me as the equivalent steps using my fitbit gives me 711 active calories. Is my watch not working properly or are the Garmin calculations wrong.
  • Or perhaps the Fitbit is wrong?

    Calories In/Out *very* wrong

I don't know what is not right or if Garmin Connect's Calories In/Out app is busted. On the mobile app and on MFP the calculations are all reasonable. On Garmin Connect the app seems to be using zero for BMR and I can't figure out where the numbers for calories burned are coming from. If this is discussed somewhere in another thread already please point me to it.

there are some more threads, that garmin mayby has a new way of calculating calories.
I personally also think ... they are wrong. In some way.
Since I get no "additional" cals in MyFitnessPal.

Maybe some day they will change back. If not, I will reactivate my fitbit & Forerunner 910, instead of FR235...

So your saying that 121 calories for 11586 steps is correct
  • Why do you think 711 is correct? That strikes me as high for just walking around during the day... The majority of most people's cals are due to their BMR.

How do your Total cals compare? Maybe FB is counting things as "active" that really aren't, while Garmin includes that in your base calories.

Yesterday I had 11549 steps and Garmin 235 with hrm on gave me 785 calories for this. I thought that was a bit high as I would normally get 400-500. Some of that was more brisk than just walking around the office. Maybe that is more accurate than I thought. MFP from the garmin steps recorded that as 358 which is closer to what my vivofit1/2 used to say...

So far for today, it has me at 365 calories for 2500 steps which I think is wrong... MFP is showing that as 165 calories. A bit odd since it's < 1/4 of the steps as yesterday and half the calories recorded by MFP yesterday. I've just been sitting on my butt mostly.

I'm finding it hard to find anything consistent...

Table here to calculate calories per mile. This probably includes BMR so you need to deduct that. (Approx. 100 calories) 11500 steps = just under 5 miles on average.

My opinion, whatever the value, 121 calories definitely seems low.

My active calories are waaaay to low as well. Yesterday i walked for about 4 hours and calorie burn from that was at the end of the day only 56. Today went on a bike trip for 2 hours + i walked around and did extra 18 000 steps. Total calorie burn from all this by the end of the day 490. Also seems too low. Yesterday's total calorie burn was by the end of the day only 1250 for the day and that's including my BMR! I used Tom Tom Cardio watch for a month and it's number were way higher.
