Getting the best battery life for an ultra

I have a friend who's doing a long ultra soon with a FR230.
What's the recommended things to turn off or select when trying to squeeze as much battery life as possible?

Bluetooth off
GPS only (GLONASS off)
Alerts off
HRM off
Smart recording and not 1 second

Anything else?
  • Turn off the display lighting (including auto-on when turning the watch) -> Menu-Settings-System-Backlight-Wrist Turn Off
  • Thanks. I'll add it to the list before I pass it over.

    The battery can last 16hrs as Garmin claimed.

    I did trail end to end hike last weekend with only GPS on, the battery consumption was 6% per hour.
    First day: 33km, 7.5 hrs recording, battery 96% --> 41%
    Second day: 34km, 6hrs 40mins recording, battery 96% --> 55%

    Here is my configs:
    Bluetooth off
    GPS only (GLONASS off)
    Alerts off
    HRM off
    Smart recording
    Auto pause off
    Auto scroll off
    Power Save Timeout - normal
    Activity Tracking - on
    Move Alert - off
    Backlight Keys and Alerts on / Wrist Turn - off
    Timeout - 8 seconds
    Sounds - All on (you might save some battery by turning them off)
  • And also you can charge it on the go with a portable battery pack.

    Ok with same set up + HRM (garmin strap) I seem to be using around 7%/hour. I look forward to doing a 90km (10-11 hours) Ultra with this watch. Must say I have been impressed with battery life so far.
