Heart rate gets stuck during activity?

Hi all,

I've not a few times now that my heart rate seems to stick during certain running activities. It always gets stuck around 130-133bps. During a run it rises steadily and normally is fine and progresses correctly. However, sometimes on the treadmill and out doors, it seems to lock at 132ish. I don't think this is cadence lock as its not the same?

If you see here:

https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1183483506

You can see that between about 8.5 and 12.5 minutes it seems stuck and then rises quickly to the correct rate. I fiddled with watch and loosened tighten it to try to kick it back into life. It didn't seem to do anything then self healed a few secs later. The watch was very tight.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Steve
  • Are you sure the first 10 minutes are your correct heart rate?

When this happens in my case, it reports a very low (100-120) and flat heart rate for the first X (usually 10-15) minutes, then instantly jumps up to the correct heart rate (usually 150-160). Based on previous runs using a chest strap, the very low initial heart rate is not correct, so I suspect it doesn't actually have a lock on my heart rate and is locking on something else or is frozen.

Usually if I completely stop for a few seconds, it'll correct itself. I noticed this by accident one day when I had to wait to cross the street.
  • Thanks Scott. I'm not 100% sure because I have seen the same thing at the end portion of a run. I'll keep an eye on it. It did take a while to get a fix before I started the run, but I left it in the HR widget a while and it seemed correct and it did climb as I started to run which I thought was right for a while.
