Optical HRM sensor (too) late registration of Heart rate in activity mode!

Since update to software v. 4.20 the registration of heart rate is very late to be registered (the GPS is ready minutes before the HRM). Very annoying
I have updated to software version 4.60 and sensor hub version 2.70
The 4 hour widget catches the heart rate immediately when wearing the watch...

I have to return my device now, but why can't Garmin fix this, since it seems to be a software issue... (4.30 and 4.60 did not solve the issue)

  • When the heart icon in the Heart Rate widget is blinking, it is still trying to lock on to usable HR readings from the sensor, even if there is a number being shown in the meantime.


    My HR icon likes to stop blinking with my HR still in the low 100s while I'm standing there waiting to start. I know it's wrong, so I end up exiting it and going back in, and what do you know, it starts blinking again because my HR is NOT in the 100s while I'm standing still. That's the main reason I still use the widget to get HR... just easier to get back and forth to it while the watch spends 2 minutes trying to dial into my almost always 60bpm HR while standing still.

    It's the weirdest damn thing because it gets my HR semi-accurate all damn day except an occasional spike here and there (where the problem is probably from me wearing it too loose during the day), right up until I grab my stuff to get ready to run. I cinch it up a notch tighter at that point, and then it decides my HR -has- to be in the 100s and sits there in the 100s for easily 2 minutes every time before plummeting back down to the 60s where it should be.
  • I have noticed that it really matters where the watch sits on my wrist. I normally wear my watches low right below the wrist bone, but would tighten and move it up the wrist just a bit for running. My HR has always been pretty acceptable, but there were often some weird anomalies that I knew were wrong. Recently, I have kept it low on my wrist and just made sure it's tight and have had substantially better HR acquisition and consistency. I'm assuming this would vary from each person, but I think I found my sweet spot.
