FR 230 Resting HR & Calories

Hi everyone,

I have two questions on FR230:

1. Do I have to manually set the Resting HR or will the device calculate it? I try to manually
set it but after a couple of hours the RHR defaults to "--" and the HR zones change to other
than the default numbers. Both Garmin Connect (android) and Garmin Connect online have
the right data. I think that data are changed after syncing to my android phone.

2. Calories calculations seem to be underestimated. I am 41yo, 174cm, 80Kgs and after a
day I walked ~5km and jogged another 5km FR230 states that I burned 2.345KC. Is this
normal? I think that BMR is quite low.

I agree something is wrong maybe for 230 using algorithm from 235 which include calculation from
hr sensor. for example today i have 36yo 168 cm 67 kgs and after workout running 18 km 1h 30 min 1092kcal
and normal day almost 8000 steps 2700kcal overall ? is thi normal i don't think so.
  • Maybe factory reset your device.

My FR230 seems ok. My BRM is 1736kc and with about 10km running, plus any walking in the office etc I usually hit around the 2750kc - 2850kc mark, so I'd say it's pretty accurate.

With 5km of running, you'll probably burn around the 350kc- 400kc mark, plus your 5km of walking, so it doesn't seem too out to me. What is your BMR?

If you go to the Garmin Connect website you can see a full breakdown of your calorie usage for each day under reports (Total calories, Active caloires etc).
  • Today I runned 4.3km and burned 348c. Then I walked (I used "other activity" to keep track of the activity) with the HR monitor for another 1.71km and burned 193c. It doesn't seem right...

I have hard reset the device many times and I don't see any difference.

i see that if do nothing i have only 1559 calories ... but actually not all our movement are connected with step. I don't believe that is true. So base on BMR 1559 is issue in that. I think if you have 235 and hr sensor it can give you more accrued because when you doing something your hr is growing but in this case is ... useless.
