Hi has anybody noticed that wrist heart rate sensor light always on in there forerunner 235 . I thinks its draining my battery around 15% per hour . My forerunner used to last upto week before 4.2 firmware upgrade .

Mine was OK after 4.2 for some time, then seemed to nosedive before 4.3 for no reason.

Its gone back, will see if the relacement is any better. No idea if it was hardware or software. Assumed hrdware as I was the only one, but maybe not.

Getting a bit hacked off. Never owned a product with so many bugs and as has been noted every update breaks something else. Garmin really need to give the option to downgrade so people can investigate if issues are software related.

it would be nice if garmin would give option for us to downgrade. I emailed them and they still havent replied back to me...
My battery would only last 2 days, so i turned off heart rate which has significantly increased battery life. so i think the culprit is the heart rate sensor lights..

I must admit thats the one thing I didn't try. Have you tried the latest update last day or so?

Yes i'm already in the latest firmware . version 4.6 and whr 2.7 . and problem still persists ..
  • Might be hardware then.
They sent me an email on how to 'reset' the battery.
Basically a full discharge until it powers itself off, full charge for 48 hours, full discharge, charge 6 hours.

Might help might not, but if the battery is iffy after 6 months on a non user serviceable watch I want a new one, not a bodge to get it through to end of warranty. I even asked what happened if it went again after 12 months and was pretty much told tough luck. So I never bothered trying.

So I have sent back to retailer rather than pay postage to garmin to receive a reconditioned 2nd hand replacement. Starting to really dislike this company's attitude.
  • They told me to check for upgrades and rest my watch but nothing worked so im thinking to send my watch back for exchange if they let me...
  • Got my replacement yesterday. It's on old firmware and so far so good re battery life.
Will update it tomorrow and see if that causes issues. If it does then I know it is software related.
  • Argh

This is also now the occuring with my Forerunner 235.

I absolutely loved this watch 1+ week battery life, and now battery is dying in less than 1 day.

It seems that HR is now always active in watch mode, before it used to periodically check HR, in 2-5 min frequency.

I think Garmin broke something in new WHR firmware or watch software version. My WHR version is now 2.70 (10.02.21) and watch software version is 4.60. Problems started yesterday after
upgrading from 4.30 to 4.60. That update probably also upgraded WHR firmware.

Garmin please fix this ASAP. pls :)
  • OK, I charged but did NOT update my replacement watch on Saturday evening.
    I think it was on F/W 4.10
Paired to blutooth but otherwise not changed anything.
No battery drain, didn't really have chance to test all features.

Yesterday I got the option over bluetooth to update so I went ahead and updated to 4.6
Looks like this also did the sensor version but I never took note of what that was on previously.
    So I am now
    Firmware 4.6
    GPS 3.00
    Display 2.10
    Bluetooth 2.20
    WHR 2.70

And it has been fine again with MINIMAL battery drain yesterday and overnight.
Tried restarting both watch and my phone this morning to ensure neither of them had an effect and so far so good.

I am yet to do any activities though.

Can someone confirm the above are the latest versions of everything?
If there is anything left to update I will try that and see if it breaks it.
If so I'm confused, maybe it was hardware? But seems strange it happened to 3 of us and coincided with an update.
Or maybe something triggers it after a period of time (it didn't happen immediately on 4.6, I'm certain it was OK for a while)

For all I/we know there are some beta versions out there that are ‘later’. However, those versions are the same as what are running on my FR235, and as far as I'm aware Garmin Express hasn't got anything more recent awaiting my approval or syncing.

Someone pointed out in another thread that if participants on this forum are not Garmin employees and don't otherwise have access to proprietary information somehow, then at best what they say is unproven and educated guesses at best, so take everything said with a grain of salt. If you want an official statement of what are the latest versions available to product owners in your market region, you'll need to ask Garmin Customer Support away from an open discussion forum such as this.
