Inline skating question

Former Member
Former Member
Hi guys,

Just got my forerunner a few days back!

Most of the time I do Inlineskating and occasionally runs. My question is which activity should I choose on my forerunner 230? Should it be run or bike or others to get a better accuracy in data recording?

Tried to google but my keywords used doesn't yield any useful results.

Thanks for the help!

I would use "other" with gps on if you are outside.
Using run or bike will screw up the vo2 max data due to inline having own kind of speed

I see, is there any limitations in choosing Other instead of bike/run?

The accuracy of both HR recording and GPS tracking would be (at least theoretically) the same for Run, Bike and Other on the FR230, notwithstanding any unexpected strangeness or unintended defects in the firmware.

However, in your case I would not suggest track your inline skating activities using the Run profile, since you only do two major types of activities including running. The Bike and Other profiles should be sufficiently competent for tracking your inline skating, so it's best to keep that separate from Run activities.

Using the Bike profile wouldn't, though, because the FR230/235 does not estimate VO2Max for cycling.

Cadence is not tracked when using the Other profile, but then I don't see the relevance of the idea of cadence to inline skating. I don't have either a foot pod or a speed-and-cadence sensor to test, but I'd imagine the Other profile will not allow those types of sensors to be connected or used for tracking activities, but then again I believe they are irrelevant to inline skating anyway.

Ok thank you for the explanation.

Looks like I should be storing my inline activities under other.

I did encounter before on phone app tracker where speed couldn't be detected when choosing biking.
