Heart strap and foot pod questions?

Hello. I have a few questions about my new Forerunner 235. First, does the foot pod register distance and steps on an indoor bike? Mind you I'm brand new at this stuff and I bought the foot pod hoping it would register when I did my recumbent bike in my basement. After my workout, it registered 0. Is is just for running or walking?
Also, I know it has the built in heart rate monitor but I decided to get the external premium heart rate monitor strap. It works fine but when I take it off and disconnect it in the setting, the wrist based one doesn't work unless I shut the phone down and restart it. Is that normal? Those little green lights on the back don't come back on after I disconnect the external strap.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The footpod registers only runs (indoor and outdoor).
You would have to get a speed & cadence sensor for the bike to see rpm.

About the strap...sounds odd. If wrist hr is on auto and you have had a strap on, switching strap off in sensor settings should wake the optical

I find that it takes a couple of minutes for the OHR to register after removing a chest strap. No idea why though.
