Brand new Forerunner 235 optical HR not working

Straight out of the box my new 235 optical HR monitor is not working. The little heart on HR widget just flashes and on a run I get nothing. The optical lights under the watch glow green sometimes but then go out.

Anyone else had this? Am doing something stupid?

No, you're not doing anything stupid. If you haven't done so yet, connect to Garmin Express and make sure you have all the updates and try restarting the watch. If that doesn't help, I'd exchange it as soon as you can.

Thanks. I have updated to 4.30. This is bad news.

There are two things to make sure you have up to date -- the firmware, which is v4.3 as you have correctly identified. The other however is the heartrate and sensor firmware, which if you go to the watch "About" under settings, and then page down, the "WHR" should read 2.60
