Post your experiences in this thread.
From the sticky:

Changes made from version 4.20 to 4.30:
•Added support for Connect IQ 1.2.6.
•Added support for searching for sensors manually.
•Improved the battery performance when used at sub-freezing temperatures.

Not really going to get too excited about this one.

I'm not sure what this means:Added support for searching for sensors manually.
Does this relate to the issue where the watch is automatically connecting to someone else's sensor?

Definitely won't be benefitting from: Improved the battery performance when used at sub-freezing temperatures.
At sub zero, I will be indoors in the warm! Hopefully it will benefit some of you :-)
  • While I think he/she is being overly harsh as well, I will say it seems like Garmin's health device team launched way too many new products in way too short of a time frame. Three new Forerunners, three(?) new Vivo devices, the Index Scale which is apparently a steaming pile of crap, new Garmin Connect software... it seems like a lot for their software team to bite off at once; it certainly looks like it, given all these devices had teething pains.

I love my 235, but I certainly won't be buying the 245 until 6 months after launch if Garmin's tendency to release extremely half baked products continues.

Did everyone see that Garmin has launched yet another device? The 735XT. I don't see how their software teams can keep up.

I just saw that a while ago and laughed. They're nuts.

That said, I want the silicone band the 735XT ships with and put it on my 235. I like the wider latch that slips into the band, similar to what is on Fitbits. The band that came with my 235 is a pain, because it comes undone so easily.
  • In addition to the above mentioned topics, on a run yesterday I had the feeling that I again had this cadence lock. From time to time I had this implausible lock to a HR around 160 with the versions before 4.2. The software 4.2 removed this issue for me, but with 4.3 it seems to be back again.

When I did my first run on Sunday, after I updated the firmware before, I had the cadence lock around 160 as well. Yesterday I rebooted the watch before I ran, and the cadence lock did not happen again during the run.

    another update

Just a quick update as I promised I would after today's lunch run. For the first time in a long time, the OHR worked perfectly on my run and thank goodness matched the numbers I was seeing from the Scosche armband HR monitor (the best, btw).

Ever since rebooting the watch (after the firmware update), it seems to have corrected whatever was going on with the elevated HR numbers I was seeing.

I will post an update if something goes wrong. But I am thankful it is working as it should. I truly love this watch when it's right.

You might be able to get one in the near future. The 230/235/630 are interchangeable and you can order them through Garmin. Garmin Watch Bands
The 735XT looks like it has the same band size.
  • Would like to see the VO2max sync issue resolved soon

    @garmin 235 development team.

For the rest of us who is relatively ok with 4.30, I'd like to see the VO2max sync issue resolved soon, Vo2max is a major indicator and one of the main reason I purchased this watch.

    I concur.

Since the 4.3 upgrade this data point is not shown in Garmin Connect.

Yep, I'm going to keep an eye out - thanks for the link!

Yeah, with these I have to be careful, because the band on the 230 is a lot harder and not as flexible as the 235's. I'm assuming it's due to the OHM, so that being the case, the 735XT's should be a perfect replacement. They don't have a Marsala option so it won't match my watch, but that's ok!

It's a good thing IMO, because the more devices they ship now with this iteration of OHRM hardware technology, the more improvements we should see.
If they abandon it to go back to the hardware lab for a year to start over... then we're just left behind.

along with the 735xt, they also announced that they added strava suffer score as a datafield for all the OHRM watches....

  • V02 Max issue is also present on the Garmin 230.
