No longer possible to customize two fields on HR Page ?

Not sure if it's been discussed before but it seems the trick to customize the two fields of the "Heart Rate" page has been "disabled" by Garmin in the latest version? A long press on the UP/Menu button while viewing that page only brings up "Music Controls"/"Back to Start"/"Lock Device"...Fortunately my previous settings (Lap HR and Average HR) have been kept. Anyone else notice that ? Thanks !

Yes, this looks like something to note. I enabled the HR screen (it's not "page 3" - it's "HR") It wouldn't even display that page until I paired a HRM, and then it's only HRM data that you can't change... It seems to be a "special page" and only for HR..

That's it, thanks. Typical mean Garmin maneuver isn't it...they had to waste time removing a useful feature that was likely costing them zero.

Any way to go back to 4.10 as I didn't notice any improvement in 4.20?
  • The same for me and I'd like to know if any possibility to change it by downgrading, changing and then upgrading. I lost this possibility only after moving to 4.3 some days ago:-(

I'm sure it's possible, but to downgrade you'll probably have to physically take the FR235 into an authorised Garmin service centre, and have a convincing reason why staff there ought to downgrade the firmware on your watch for you (e.g. the latest update is known to have broken something that worked in firmware v4.10, and in doing so rendered the device no longer fit for purpose). Wanting to access an undocumented feature that you find handy is probably not a convincing reason.
  • Why so difficulty - isn't it possible to downgrade as it was possible in betas - just put a renamed bin (or whatever update file) onto device?
  • Why so difficulty
There is simply no technical or commercial reason to offer software downgrades a user self-service facility. Your wanting it is not a good enough reason to make it available. Do you have a more convincing reason than that to suggest?

By the way, I don't question your right to ask why, but nobody need justify to anyone else why something to which you're not entitled is not offered.
  • Not too bothered about that change since I'd set the two fields to my liking and they've stuck so far but it might be possible to grab an old beta firmware download, downgrade, change the settings and update again?

Yes, because device with new firmware doesn't offer me the product I purchuased! This is legal problem.

I would love to downgrade temporary, because current firmware make the device not usable for me because of the restarts and loosing data described in another thread. If somebody point to guide how to do it, it would be more than welcome. I understand, that this is not good for Garmin, when users downgrading the fw, but it is Garmin, who mess this up. I would hapily return to latest fw when it again offer the product for which I spent money.

But this removing small useful functionalities from newer firmwares are classic for Garmin. I remember the same thing with Forerunner 110. This is not how the company should treat customers! We have full right to be mad, because we hate returning purchuased products because they are doing something different than it was advertised.
  • If your FR235 is currently messed up you might as well try to go back to an old Beta...problem is I can't seem to find an active link on Garmin's site anymore. Maybe you'd save them ?
