Just purchased and have done one outside run 5.2 miles all went well.I can't get any sense out of the TM in door running mode ...Run is off big time! Correct distance 0.50m Taken off two other makes of R.Watch... The Garmin 235 which has only registered 0.20m.I have also tried putting a Garmin footpod to see if that would help but still out big time! My running style is based on Chi Running (Danny Dryer) short steps 92/93 spm Any help would be great THANKS!
  • OI think it took mine about 6-7 outdoor runs before it came close, then got more accurate as I racked up outdoor runs. Now my treadmill running is pretty close mileage wise, still a little off on the short side, but I don't mind I run by time and pacing.
  • Indoor distance estimates are based on your arm motion. Since every person is different, it takes a bunch of outdoor running before the watch will achieve a degree of accuracy. Even then, changing your armswing can/will throw it off.

One outdoor run isn't going to cut it. You'll need a bunch more.

You say you tried a footpod but didn't mention anything about how you went about calibrating it? Calibrated footpods are definitely more accurate IMHO, although they still lose accuracy as your pace changes from what you'd calibrated it at.

For indoor running I recommend using a footpod and ensure you've calibrated it. When it works, Garmin's autocalibration during outdoor runs is nice; but mine's not worked since the last two or three firmware revisions. It's easy enough to manually calibrate it using a known distance. Google can get you more info on how to do so if nobody has a direct link handy (I don't).
