Watch face and app updates only via USB?

Hi
I have had the 235 for about 4 months now. Only recently have I plugged it in via USB to charge it (always just use Android via Bluetooth) and Garmin Connect popped up to say that I had quite a few app and watch face updates pending. Does that mean that the apps/watch faces do not get version updates via Bluetooth sync?

I'm my experience, the 235 can sync watch faces and apps via the mobile app, but the bandwidth for data transmission is pretty low. It timed out several times for me and I can keep the app open for the sync bar to slowly complete and transfer all the watch faces I had selected. Perhaps it would've been better to try one at a time.

    Hi
Thanks for the reply. Yeah it is slow installing apps, but I actually meant does it automatically apply incremental updates to installed watch faces and apps etc? E.g. when the developers make improvements and changes to them. It was only when I plugged my watch in that it asked if I wanted to apply updates to these, some of which were quite old.
  • It does and will update via USB connection but you may have to initiate the update... I do not use Android but on the iOS platform, from the My Day page you hit the three dots at the bottom right (more), the Garmin Devices, then Your Device, and then Connect IQ you can get to specific applications, widgets, watch faces, and data fields. If you hit let's say Data Fields and then a specific one, if there is an update for it, you will have a blue bar, Update, at the bottom of the screen and can then update the specific datafield.

Wait ... what? Maybe I read this wrong, but as far as I can tell, you can charge your watch via Bluetooth? I would like to know how that is done.

  • I believe he's just saying that he normally syncs his watch via Bluetooth instead of USB. I would assume that means he charges through a wall charger of some sort which is why he hadn't gotten update notices before.
  • That or he will be a very rich man having figured out how to charge a device through bluetooth... :)
