Watch face changing after plug in

Everytime I connect my 235 to my PC via USB, without fail it will have changed the watch face used as a display. I usually have it set to the normal Garmin digital one, but do have a few extras installed in case I fancy a change, but after charging and transferring data, once unplugged the face changes to a Connect IQ one.

Its not a major inconvenience, just a little frustrating after a while. Any idea why it is doing this and how to fix?

Thanks

PS - I am on all the latest firmware, but the watch has been doing this for several months now through the last few firmware updates.

Some of us have seen it happen, and brought it up in this thread: https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?346473-Watch-face-and-connect-IQ-content-disappear-after-charging

To be fair, I have not seen it happen on my FR235 on any occasion when I disconnected the cable/clip before the battery power level reached 100%. I also haven't seen it happen since updating the firmware to v4.20, even though I've charged my FR235's battery to 100% (and left it connected for a while after that) using my Mac's USB port in several instances since, including just now.
  • I've seen this happen, and what I've see is that before plugging in the watch, GE has an update or install for something in the app store, and when you unplug, the "new" watchface is shown. Check to see what GE has pending to update before plugging in the watch, as that might provide more info. I'm not sure if this is a bug or a feature.

I think its a bug. Plugged it in earlier today, but had GE open at the time so I could check on updates. No app/watch face updates pending, just needed to sync my runs and it still changed the watch face
  • It's been the default from day one for the screen to change to what's essentially a "charging screen" when connected to a computer. If you connect to something like a phone charger or portable usb battery pack then the watch face will stay the same as when it's not connected to anything.

We're actually talking about the Watch Face setting getting changed. The factory default screen is named Digital, and some of use have installed additional Connect IQ watch faces (such as Countdown!, SC8 and Steam Gauge, in my case). I've had instances where my watch face was Countdown! before charging (from the USB port on my Mac), and somehow after I disconnected the watch face became SC8 or Digital without my intervention. kingdave82 reported going from Digital to an installed (but not originally in use) Connect IQ watch face after charging.
  • Same here. Every time I connect my watch to my PC to charge, the watch face changes from the default Digital to my DomiWatch face ... minor issue for me. In fact, I recently discovered that I could configure this face to include the move meter, so I use Domi now.

Edit: Windows 7 ... happened again this weekend ... from Digital to DomiWatch ... I also have Better Original & Digic installed

We have been testing a lot of different watch face/charging combinations, and are unable to recreate the issue. If possible post the watch face and computer you are using when the issue occurs. Being able to determine a root cause will help towards a resolution.
  • For me this was the case with Better Original and Digic Watch.

I used to use Better Original and now use Digic Watch, after connecting it kept changing back to Better Original. I now removed Better Original completely to fix the issue.

    This on a Windows10 x64 computer...
  • I saw this with Better Original as well

  • I also saw this with better original.
Only ever had 2 installed (that and SR2) so cant say if it is a coincidence, but sounds like it probably isn't.
