Bluetooth

Hi everyone:

Is anyone else experiences issues with the bluetooth since the last update??? I can't pair my phone and my watch together ever since the update.
  • Works fine for me. Have you tried to turn both the watch and the phone off and on again?

  • I had the same problem after I upgraded. It seems that the only thing that fix it for me was to reset my watch to factory.

    Hi everyone:

Yup. Reported it the same day as the new version of Connect came out (note: everytime there is a new version out, we have to do this same dance).
IMHO, it's due to the way that Garmin lock out 3rd-party Apps by intercepting the 'normal' BT verification system. It's an unstable house of cards.
I'm at the point where my watch (VivoActive) has a LiveTrack session in progress, that cannot be stopped as there is not a valid BT connection (via Connect!), despite both the phone AND the watch saying they are connected via BT. (Of course the ass-backward Connect method of 3rd-party blocking authentic ovation is continually failing so the watch is stuck like this)

To answer the other reply, I did as the pairing instructions in Connect said - delete the profile in the BT settings, etc...
    Nope.

Deleted BT profile, restarted watch and phone. Tried to pair. Entered code.
Nope. Pairing failed. Retry? Fail, fail, fail

Deleted BT profile. Deleted Connect (kept data). Restarted watch and phone.
    Tried pairing. Code, etc.
    Nope. Pairing failed.

I can understand why Garmin wish to lock out 3rd-party access to their devices, but when it messes up using the damn things on their own Apps...?
The flaky Garmin ANT+ devices do not endear me to Garmin either.

I have always loved Garmin kit, but I am now actively looking for a replacement system.
After this, and the recent 'cloud failures,' I'm done.
Trouble is, I cannot see anything to replace it with that does not suffer from the same crud. :(

Sorry for the rant, but I am really cheesed-off with this now.

What the heck?!! (you know what I really wanted to say!)

What kind of bad programming requires you to do that?!!
In fact, that we even need to restart or phones to connect to Garmin devices should never, ever, have to happen!
Restart the watch maybe, but even then, how rubbish does your programming have to be to make this a necessity?

Almost every time Garmin changes something, they screw something else up.

I hope to <enter your relevant deity, if any> that they do not have the same bunch of pillocks coding for devices where life and limb are at real risk - GPS systems used by troops, mountain rescue, trawlers, yachtsmen, etc...

FYI: A Garmin handheld saved my life once when in the British Army. I thought I would always be happy with Garmin kit as a result of this -
I'm not so sure I'd take just a Garmin with me as backup now having seen how this clusterfudge [Flaky Connect BT implementation, and its unnecessary overuse of 'The Cloud' for everything] has been handled since I bought my VivoActive in Nov15. Every change breaks something, usually BT connections, but then we get the web outages, and this time LiveTrack is/was also broken.

Not impressed Garmin. Not impressed at all.

    PS
To all those people who have not had these issues, I am really happy for you. Truly I am. But your success is not mine. Or that of others here.
    So..
Maybe it's my phone. Wait, what - no BT issues with 9 listed BT devices... Hmm, not that then...
Maybe the watch itself...? Possibly, but then I only seem to get these issues when Garmin release an update...
    Ahh. Connect then?
Oh, and when did you last need to restart your phone or set it back to factory defaults when you added a different BT device? Never? Thought not.
    Incompetent Programming
Also, don't get me started on how long Garmin take to say anything publicly when their cloud-service and website goes teats-up and their many tens of thousands of customers are left with bricks because everything relies on that Emperor's New Clothes POS called: "THE CLOUD"...!
  • No connection problems here

Almost every time Garmin changes something, they screw something else up.
Updated my Forerunner 235 to firmware version 4.20 – no connection problems.
Updated my Garmin Connect Mobile app for iOS to version 3.5.0.16 (running on my iPad Air with iOS 9.3.1) – no connection problems.
(Also updated my Garmin Connect Mobile apps for Android and for Windows Phone – no connection problems.)
