Forerunner 230 unstable lap pace after upgrade to FW4.20

Hi,

The lap pace readings during a run have become very unstable after the recent upgrade of my ForeRunner 230 to FW4.20. During a run at a stable pace of around 4:50/km the lap pace fluctuates between 4:20 and 5:30/km without reason (I'm not speeding up or slowing down). Is there a way to downgrade your watch back to FW4.10 because I have a number of long races planned in the upcoming weeks and (for me at least) this is a major issue.

Previous firmware releases did not have this flaw and used to give an accurate and fairly stable reading of the lap pace.

Kind regards,
Tom.
  • Install custom data field (I use single run field, excellent one)
    Set averaging 2s/ 5s/ 10s
As for the problem - just updated, will report
  • As promised post my experience

I would agree that pace jumps up and down, tried to use pace on a standard screen - it does show sometimes faster or slower pace.
It does not jump, but changes in 10/ 20 seconds as if you were accelerating

Not sure if it appeared in 4.20 (I use either custom field that rounds pace for some period of time or "workout" screen (where I think stage pace is shown)), but there is something that might be not right
  • Is this happening in a normal run or a workout?

And then is it the start of a new lap? If so, that makes some sense as lap pace is shown as current pace for the first 20 secs of a new lap. I've never seen lap pace consistently jump around as you describe thereafter however.

    No, not when lap starts
Probably jumps is not the correct word, since it went up during 10-20 sec intervals/ down during the same period.
And it could be instant pace going up while average going down.
I never trust pace before 30 secs of new lap passes, so no, not connected with lap

During most recent run have not noticed the issue, maybe the watch learns somehow, or it was because of change of shoes or I was just unlucky (or lucky)
But there was definitely an issue.
