Battery Life when using GPS+Glonass

I own a brand new Garmin 235, it's less than 2 months old.

Today I had it fully charged 100%. In the evening, I went for an hour of running with GPS+Glonass turn on.

When I came back and plug the charger in, it's 67% !!

Oh, so this mean if I'm going for a marathon I should turn on only GPS right ?

I'd like to know, is GPS+Glonass mode really effect the battery that much.

1 hour 33%, but Garmin said 11 hours. So if I turn on only GPS will it really last for 11 hours ??
  • Did you power off the watch between when it was full charged and when you saw the 67%. If so then don't next time. There's a bug where you get (more) battery drain when the watch is powered off. If you did turn it off this would explain the fall in battery.

No, I didn't power it off at all. :(

Had it fully charged at noon, didn't wear it, took it for a run in the evening, plugged in a charger, saw 67%
  • Are you using and ConnectIQ apps or watch faces?

Sounds odd... I had 98% ....ran 2h 45min. Gps and glonass and bluetooth....result: 78% sounds like you have a drainage.

    No not at all...

Is there anyway to fixed this. Restore defaults, formats, reset ?

Claim for the warranty ? Actually on the day I went for purchased, it was perfectly new, sealed safely in its original box
  • Try a non-vol clear also known as resetting to factory settings. (After you have synchronised as it wipes everything). Then charge to 100%, then go for a run. That's what I would do

  • What firmware version are you using? My watch was bought and first used after FW 4.1 was out - so I didn't experience any of the early 'beta' issues... just the later beta issues :) lol

Connect via cable to a computer with Garmin Express installed for update.

    Problem Solved

Thanks everyone, I had tried all of your recommendation.

Finally I called Customer Services of Garmin, Thailand.

They advised me to do a hard reset after firmware upgraded. They also gave me instructions of how to do so.

The problem is solved I went out for a run 1hr 3min using only GPS and also do some walking 15 min in nonGPS mode.

10% is gone. So it's look like to be okay.

For those who experience the same problem, Hard reset is done by.

    HardReset
    1. Turn off the device.
    2. hold 3 buttons, power, runner, laps.
    3. When the screen is on release power button.
    4. When you hear a beep release runner button.
    5. When you hear another beep release laps button.
    6. Wait for device to fully start and do the set up.
**Notes : This deletes everything on your device, be sure to transfer data before doing so.

Again Thank you everyone for every suggestion :)

More Question : Anyone know how much more battery will be consumed with Glonass turn on ??
  • I've heard that its about another 10-20% more when you've Glonass on too. Not sure if this true or not.

You could repeat exactly what you did above, but this time with GPS & GLONASS then compare the battery left ... that would be a pretty definitive answer I'd guess. I'd be interested.
