Will heart zones be adjusted automatically?

HI - I've been using my 235 for a 6 days, and it shows the heart rate zones it did when I first used it. The instructions kind of imply that changes will be made:

The default settings allow the device to detect your maximum heart rate and set your heart rate zones as a percentage of your maximum heart rate.
• Verify that your user profile settings are accurate (Setting Up Your User Profile).
• Run often with your compatible heart rate monitor.
• Try a few heart rate training plans, available from your Garmin ConnectTm account.
• View your heart rate trends and time in zones using your Garmin Connect account.

Has anyone seen their max heart rate be adjusted after using the unit for a while, or should I just adjust it now? I don't have a super reliable estimate for Max HR, but I'm pretty sure it's higher than what is set. If the unit will adjust it, I'll be patient, but I don't want to be waiting for a cat to bark 8-).

thanks!
  • I would definitely set the max and even maybe the minimum yourself. Being that the HR tracking can get a bit buggy at times...better just to set them as you see changes.

I believe the only setting that would work for auto setting, is for the resting HR. Maximum had no such setting. Testing for on your own for maximum HR can be a challenging intervals hill workout.... fun :-/....:) I prefer on a treadmill personally. (can double verify HR with watch...and treadmill HR)
