GPS / Glonass accuracy compared to Garmin Forerunner 225.

Hi all

I have a Garmin Forerunner 225 and run 5K regularly. No tall buildings here and no interference for GPS signals.

I really care about pace and was wondering if there are differences in distance measurement accuracy between these two watches (the forerunner 225 and the 235).

Thanks in advance for your inputs.

  • I have been very happy with my 235 (and 225 before it). In a certified 10k last weekend it had 6.23 which I would say is pretty darn good as I started probably 20-30 feet before the start line and probably didn't stop exactly on the finish line along with probably running a good, but not perfect line. Otherwise it has always in general seemed very good. Just checked I don't have Glonass on, frankly never paid attention to that.

I had a 225 before that and it was also pretty good. In 2 halfs last fall both gave 13.1X miles at the finish line. If I recall 0.03 and 0.05 over.

My Fenix 3 I had prior to returning boy what a different story......it would be 0.05+ off (low side) after mile 1 and continue to get worse and worse as the miles rolled on.

    Thank you Scott

Thanks for tasking the time to share.

I've honestly been burned once when measuring pace with an iPhone 6 - I was off by close to ten percent (phone overestimated distance) on a certified course. I didn't have a GPS watch then.

The conundrum for me is that when running outside, my 225 shows the same distance covered when I compare it to the iphone.

I guess I'll try the watch on an outdoor track and report back.

But yes great to hear both watches working well for you.

    Thanks again.
