running in a strange city -how do I find back in running

Hi.
Can someone more savy help me.
I am in a strange city and going for a long run. How do I set up the running profile so that I can find back? I.e. arrow or something?
  • On the 630, if you go to the menu there is a back to start option. I can't quite remember where to access it though. Maybe under activity settings? You then a compass heading and a distance (as the crow flies) back to start. Not sure if this is support on the 235 though (ISTR that maybe only the 630 has an eCompass)

I'm pretty sure that after you start a GPS-enabled Run workout, if you press the Run button to stop the workout, in the menu that begins with:
    Resume
    Save
    Discard
    — ⁞
there is a ‘Back to Start’ option.

(Unfortunately I cannot confirm it for you by performing an experiment right now, since it's nearly 3AM and I live in an apartment among tall buildings, so I can't get a GPS signal even when I stick my arm out of the window – believe me, I tried! – and I don't feel like getting out of my pyjamas to go out, sorry.)

Probably not quite what you want but the 'Find My Car' app might be useful if you finish an activity *roughly* where you started but cant find way back from there.

I don't see it in the 230/250 manual, but it's also on those devices. If you hold the up button when you're in a run activity (for example), you get a menu, and back to start is one of the selections. When recording, pressing start brings up the resume/save/discard menu, and it's also after those

Exactly this, and it's actually the option right below "Discard" ;)

Ha, that'll teach me to read the manual!

    Good find.

Had a quick play, and if you display the 'back to start' during activity it then just becomes an extra screen that you can toggle through just like the other data screens and optionals like time of day, heart graph etc.

Could be useful when on a random wander run!!

    Yeah. Worked.

Man courses would be nice to download to the 235.

But...I'm uppgrading to Fenix 3hr ...so this will be a non-issue.
