VO2 Max for cycling

So, my FR235 has long set my VO2 Max for running. This will occasionally change plus or minus one. What has to be done for my watch to set my VO2 Max for cycling? I bike outside or use my indoor trainer more than I run, so frequencies isn't the issue. I'm using the same Garmin HR strap I use for running. I have numerous rides where I've maintained speed over relatively flat smooth roads for over 30 minutes. The manual only covers VO2 Max for running and I can't find anything on the forums. Am I missing something, or is this another feature to add to my list of "should work, but doesn't"?

The Forerunner 235 does not have the ability to record a cycling Vo2 Max estimate. The following devices will be able to record and display Cycling VO2 Max and require the use of a powermeter:

    • Edge 520
    • epix
    • fenix 3
    • Forerunner 920XT
    • quatix 3

My Forerunner 235 may be calculates V02 Max for cycling.

    Hi,

Just found this thread. I was aware that my Forerunner 235 does not calculate VO2 max for cycling. But in my Garmin Connect page shows two readings of my VO2 Max.

Is this correct? Maybe lastet firmware updates improve this option.

  • Maybe you've got a measurement with some other devices... In any case, afaik you need a powermeter to ger VO2Max

Nope, I just have and use the Forerunner 235.
  • AirVetra is right, you need a HR strap and a Power sensor to get VO2Max for cycling. Perhaps this is a Garmin Connect reporting bug. Does a value show on the watch also?

  • I just noticed that I also have an entry for VO2 max for cycling! Also 'Vo2max report' now shows up in the reports as an option under Cycling. It hadn't ever been there.

My guess with the recent change to firmware relating to fixing the VO2 max bug... that they did something for biking.

My guess based on my case at least, it just shows the "VO2 max cycling" that is entered on the Garmin Connect website in profile/user settings.

I guess well see what happens.
