Help! My Garmin 235 date says March 16!

My firmware says 4.10. I've rebooted my phone, my watch, multiple times. The first time I rebooted my watch, the time just seemed to "fade" away but the watch never said "power off" like it has in the past. I rested it in off for about 5 minutes then turned it back on. The second time I rebooted it, it did say "power off" and I clicked yes. So after 3 reboots (2 that said "power off") it still says MArch 16. I've synced with Garmin connect on my phone multiple times also.
Thank you,

Stephanie.

Go outside and try and get a good GPS signal. If that doesn't work, check your time zone in Garmin Connect. Mine changed on it's own about a month ago.

Where is the time zone? I've checked every setting in Garmin Connect and I cannot find it.

In Garmin Connect click on the man bust (fourth icon down on the top right and select " Settings"; the time zone should be the second line...

Not seeing the "man bust" but I did go outside my cave, I mean office, and received a GPS signal. That reset the date and time back to now.

I checked under Garmin Devices and Settings under the "more" option and still can't find "time zone" so hopefully the GPS thing did the trick

That suggests you performed a hard reset (which is generally done by holding the Backlight button for 15 seconds).

I've just done a hard reset on my FR235 to test it, and indeed the date is now set to 16[sup]th[/sup] March. It sorta makes sense that a hard reset would clear the clock, but I'm not sure from where the specific value for the current date came. At a wild guess, it's the date of the timestamp most recent firmware update – in this case, that of the update for Time Zone Map v17.00.

I rested it in off for about 5 minutes then turned it back on. The second time I rebooted it, it did say "power off" and I clicked yes. So after 3 reboots (2 that said "power off") it still says MArch 16.
The subsequent reboots don't matter, because a clock that wasn't set properly will remain that way until it is set.

Alas, syncing with Garmin Connect Mobile or Garmin Express does not set the watch's clock time to the host device's clock time.

When you open Garmin Connect online, you should have 4 figures on the top left side. Bottom one should be the bust. Click that, settings, and time zone setting is the 2nd field.

Are you looking in Garmin Connect or Garmin Express?

This has now happened to me: my date is stuck on 3/27, and, if I turn the automatic time setting on, it resets to an arbitrary time about 3 hours and 48 minutes behind the real time. (So I assume this is NOT a timezone thing because all timezones that I know of are on the same hour or half-hour.) I've done three hard resets and I don't see any way to manually set the date on the watch, iPhone app, or Garmin Connect app for Mac. It's infuriatingly stupid to wear a watch that literally tells you the wrong date (I fixed the time manually). How did you fix it, stephk9876? It's not clear to me from this thread.
  • It's not clear to me from this thread.

With time set to "automatic" on the watch, it uses GPS to set the date/time.

Go outside and fire up something like "running" until you get a GPS fix. That should set the time.

The way I understand it, is the FW uses the "TZ Map" data (it get's updated a few times a year on devices that use GPS to set times) to use your lat/lon to figure out the TZ info for your location, including DST.

That worked! I've been using the GPS much more sporadically than when I first got the watch at Xmas, because I got a respiratory infection in late winter and haven't been able to run much.

    Thanks, jim_m_58!
