I just received my Forerunner 235 today. After setting the watch up I noticed that the backlight does not work. I'm not sure if I'm missing something in the settings or did I receive a broken watch?

Go to Backlight settings ( from the watch face) and check whether the ‘Keys and Alerts’ toggle is on or off. If it is off, then the backlight is only triggered by pressing the button.

If you press the button and the backlight still does not come on, then your watch may be defective.

I'm assuming that the watch is defective. I was hoping that it had to do with some brightness setting as there are many users complaining about the screen being hard to read at night...:(
I have the same issue with mine as well, for the longest time I thought it was perhaps some issue with the software, but after back and forth with support and the recent upgrade to 4.20 not doing anything to fix it, I ended up mailing it back today for a replacement.
