Pace measurements not accurate for 200m interval repeats

When running 200m repeat intervals with my FR235 I am seeing a significant average pace recording lag when switching from fast to slow interval, which basically means that pace is not updated until I am way into the interval. If I am running 200m fast/200m slow, it looks like good portion of my slow interval pace becomes counted as part of next fast interval pace and vice versa. I have data recording set to "Every second" which I think ensures more data points compared to "Smart" recording.
Has anyone experienced the same issue?

i found the same thing when running 800's
i was halfway through a rep and running flat out when i looked at the watch and it said i was doing my easy run pace. it got better the further i went but for the vast majority of the rep it was wildly inaccurate.

fortunately now the pace alerts are working so if it beeps i know im slacking off and need to push harder (looking at the watch during intervals is a pain in the arse anyway)

...but yeah, avg pace takes a really long time to calculate during intervals.
  • If you're running 200m reps, then work out how long the 200m should take you and just run to the timer. I guessing the 200m fast should probably be flat out so do you actually need pace when you are doing them?

Sure timer would work, but this requires me to do extra work and defeats the purpose of this watch (at least for short interval workouts). I am sure most would agree a great thing about a watch like fr235 is that it lets you prepare your workouts beforehand and then just focus on running with the watch buzzing at you and telling you what to do next. Usually it's not just simple 200m repeats is something more like - 2 mile warmup, 200m fast, 200m recovery, 400m fast, 200m recovery, 800m fast, 400m recovery, repeat 3 times and so. There could a dozen steps in the workout and I don't have a press any buttons on my watch (and risk pressing the wrong button wearing gloves), just do what it tells me to do and focus on my running, not on my watch.
Not saying this issue is a big deal, if I need super precise measurement I will do it with a timer, but right now it doesn't seem in the ballpark for short intervals, so was just wondering if others have the problem.

Are you taking manual laps here at the start/end of each 200?
Personally with 200 reps, pace is of little consequence as you are only to get a split time very often anyway.
  • You should either have autolaps set to 200m, or manually press the lap button at the end of each lap. Also, set the watch to display lap pace instead of average page. Personally my screen 1 is for regular runs with (regular) pace, total distance, timer, and HR zone. My screen 2 is catered more toward track workouts, it shows lap pace, lap distance, lap number, and lap time.
