I have stopped using this toy now

I get so frustrated with this toy... GPS sucks, HR sucks but worse still is that I don´t know if it will power on after a few days.
The watch have been shut off now for 4 days and the battery is completely dead when trying to power on.

-Garmin, Hello? Do I need to make a schedule for charging or how do you think?

I think the 235 for me is useless now because I don´t use it anymore when almost always out of power when I need it
  • I understand your frustration but maybe you should try to return your watch (if you could) because I never had those issues with mine (knock on wood) and maybe you have a bad unit.

    Thanks

The 235 has a bug that drains battery when power is of (they are trying to fix this).

It sounds odd...but you should keep watch on to get more days of use.

If you download the "analog battery saver" watchface, turn of auto hr and bt...it will keep power for weeks.

Gps...that I can not help with. Have yo tried gps + glonass and only gps...any difference?

Hr data...the ohrm should work on tempo runs. Do yo wear it tight? Like really really tight and higher than normal watch? Have you tried wearing it on with watch inside wrist?
  • Isn't it time you made a choice, among the limited options you have?

Why have you waited so long? Would not having the FR235 also frustrate you?

You've known since more than two months ago that battery power is consumed significantly even with the watch switched off. It does not make sense logically why Garmin would have implemented things such that the phenomenon, and many owners would be prepared to agree it must be unintentional and therefore a ‘bug’. Nevertheless, you're consciously aware of that behaviour, and since you're powerless to alter the watch's behaviour, you can only adjust yours to better serve your goals, when refusing to do so only adds to your frustration which is not rational.

I'm not Garmin, but for what it's worth I certainly don't think you need to make a schedule for charging, unless you're absolutely not in a position to connect the watch to a charger or computer by USB cable for half an hour before going for a workout and you follow a schedule for your workouts. Alternatively, you can simply charge your watch every night or two (or three!), as a habit without following a schedule.

Not only would leaving the watch switched on slow down the loss of battery power (to approximately 10% per 24 hours, without GPS-tracked activity or HR broadcasting over ANT+), it will also allow you to see at a glance the level of battery power remaining, so that you can gauge whether you ought to recharge it before taking it out for a run or cycling workout.

It's entirely your prerogative whether to be (and/or remain) frustrated, whether you want to use your watch you're out, leave your watch switched on when you're not, and charge your watch when it's battery power level is low; all of the above pertains to your choices about your own behaviour. You cannot be in control and override the watch's programmed behaviour in spite of being its owner; that is essentially true of any appliance you buy.

You may not be in a position to choose satisfaction, but at least you can choose the compromise (e.g. stick with the TomTom Multi-sport Cardio and forgo HR broadcasting but get your money back from returning the FR235, or keep the FR235 for broadcasting of HR – which you don't appear to trust – but learning to change your habits with regard to switching the watch off and charging it) and the type of resultant frustration. It really doesn't take an FR235 just to have HR broadcasting, and you can have a Mio Link or Mio Fuse if you want a wrist-worn HR broadcasting device (instead of, say, a Scosche Rhythm+ which is an armband, or of course a good ol' chest strap HRM). There are so many options, even if none of them give you exactly what you want.

Seriously, if you don't think you'll get any use out of the FR235 and can still return it, it stands to reason that you'd do so. Either way you're getting nil utility, but at least you can have more money in your pocket if you go without owning the technology/product at all.
  • Surely you have time to charge it... you know, at some point during the FOUR DAYS you left it off, it might have been possible to plug it in instead. If you have to make charging schedule to fit 30 minutes into a 4 day gap of not using the watch, I don't think anyone can help you.
  • No more battery drain while turned off since FW4.10 on my Forerunner 230 !! :D

I was also annoyed with this battery drain while off (like said in the lasts posts).
BUT : Finally this is over for me ! Since update on FW 4.10 ;)
Check on yours 235, maybe they resolved it too on your devices.
    Thank you Garmin !
