Is it possible to record Swim data?

Hi all, I run mainly and cycle and swim occasionally. I'd like to be able to record my swims - nothing too technical just the duration and distance would be a big start!

I can do this on 'Other' as an activity profile but as i run and ride in miles and swim in a 20metre pool it's not ideal to have to fiddle with the settings before each activity.

Is there an easier way? Anyone got round this somehow?
  • The 235 is not set up for swimming. If you are indoor (ie no GPS) how is it going to track distance for example? There area couple of ways to do this. You could manually log for swims in Garmin Connect as a way to track them, or you could upgrade to a 920XT/Fenix3 which will do swimming as well.

  • The vivoactive also supports pool swimming (not open water), and you enter things like the pool length. I think it can tell when you turn around using the accel to get distance.

from https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/prod538374.html, it looks like the VA-HR also supports swimming. (see the "Dive In" section.)

hmm, hadn't really thought about that, the swims I had tested on 'Other' were in open water but will now be moving to pool

Can't really justify upgrading, only just upgraded to this one!

Don't really swim enough to warrant a second one - just a 'would be nice' option

I'm wondering if it's possible to set the pool length perhaps and then press lap at each end for it to work out speed/distance etc?
