Sleep Tracking

Is there some way to manually enter sleep tracking? Or will it just only track if I sleep between a certain rigid schedule? It seems like being able to manually set sleep would make sense for naps, and weekends where people sleep in longer or go to bed later then normal.

I normally don't stay on a very tight schedule, it tends to kind of rotate around the week, and the steps for changing the 'sleep time' are a bit cumbersome to be doing on a daily basis.

    In garmin mobile:
Go to; garmin devices -》 Forerunner 235 -》 user settings -》 scroll down to sleep time.

Thanks, I saw that, but was kind of hoping maybe there would be an easier way to do it like a 'im going to sleep now button'. I tend to live on a 28 hour day, so everyday I usually sleep at a different time.
  • Sleep tracking won't account for naps, unfortunately

You can manually edit the start and finish times for the single entry of sleep recorded (including in instances where the entry is effectively blank) for each day in Garmin Connect online and/or the Garmin Connect Mobile app.

Or will it just only track if I sleep between a certain rigid schedule?
I don't think the FR235's sleep tracking feature, as it stands today, will recognise periods of lack of (accelerometer) activity as sleep if the time is too far outside of the ‘normal’ sleeping hours specified in the user profile. My sleeping hours are specified as 02:00 to 10:00, and I know when I take a nap late in the afternoon, it's just inactivity (subject to being disturbed by move alerts) and not sleep from the watch's perspective.

It seems like being able to manually set sleep would make sense for naps,
Alas, even though there is explicit mention of naps in the daily sleep report, there is no way to add (or edit) either individual entries or the total nap time, and it always shows 0:00 for naps.

and weekends where people sleep in longer or go to bed later then normal.
The FR235 has sometimes recognised and reported inactivity as early as 00:30 and as late as 11:30 as sleep.

I wonder what is going to show (and what side effects there will be) if I change the sleep times to 00:00–23:59. For one thing, I'm confident that will suppress move alerts. I'm not sure whether that will also suppress smart notifications.

On the rare occasion I have taken a nap, it's never been recognized. I have my sleep times set for 10PM-5AM. If I'm fortunate enough that my Golden Retriever doesn't jump up on my bed and wake me on the weekend, I've had no problems with my 235 recording sleep outside that window if I get up between 6-7AM. I believe if there's no sleep interruption and you pass your set wake up time, it'll record just fine for you.
