I have a chest strap ANT+ HRM from my garmin 405cx that I want to pair with my forerunner 230. I can't get my watch to recognize that I'm wearing the hrm. I've replaced the batteries. Any other thoughts?

Make sure you are wearing the strap (so that HR is detected while pairing), and that the strap and watch are close together while pairing. You might have to delete any other HRMs that are/were connected, or at least make sure the 230 is not connected to another HRM while you are trying to pair to a new HRM. I have multiple HRMs paired - there is a separate numerical identifier for each - but of course only one connected at a given time.

Do yours pair automatically? Or did you go to Menu - Settings- Sensors and Accessories? When I had it on today I placed my watch right next to it but nothing happened. I'm wondering if the hrm actually even works still. I'll charge my 405cx and see if it recognizes it.

GAH I can get the hrm (HRM1G) paired and working with my old 405cx. I unpaired it with that watch and tried to get it to pair with my 230. No luck. I feel like I'm missing something simple here. Does the watch just magically sense the hrm or should I force it somehow?

Pairing is simple, as long as the sensor being paired (HR monitor, footpod, etc.) is active (meaning footpod is moving a little, HRM is sensing HR), AND the sensor being paired is close to watch. I've successfully paired an HRM2, HRM3, Scosche Rhythm + and footpod.

    Suggest you try:

    1) unpairing all sensors that have a pairing profile
    2) re-setting the device

If the device stops responding, you may need to reset it.
NOTE: Resetting the device may erase your data or settings.

    Hold for 15 seconds.

    The device turns off.
Hold for one second to turn on the device.

    3) put HRM strap on chest, turn watch on and hold watch close to HRM

Did you see in the manual (PDF) that you must place the HRM within 1cm range from the watch in order to be paired? I had exactly the same problem until I read this trick

    Pairing the HRM strap

I´ve spent a whole day thinking my 230 had a problem, but the problem is Garmin manual. It says just put them together but for me it doesn´t work. There´s no way for HRM strap or the foot pod to trigger pairing system.

This is the tip i got here from other topics and worked fine to me: Menu > My Stats > Recovery Advisor > Turned it off > Turned it on. It forced 230 to search for a HRM. So i put them on, bourght them TOGETHER and voila!

Now both 405CX strap and 230 strap are paired and working fine.

Btw, if I have an active strap paired, I need to shut it off before going to Menu > Settings > Sensors and Accessories > choose the strap > on/off

Now I have found no way to pair the foot pod with 230, I guess tomorrow I´ll open a thread for that.
