Where are you wearing your 235?

Given the problems some people can have getting consistently reliable optical HR readings, thought might be useful to start a thread to share where you find wearing the 235 works best for you?

I'll start with this picture.

Here my 235 is "up the wrist" somewhat from a 630 and quite tight such that if I push and/or pull it from side to side it does not slide up or down my wrist at all.

BTW I put the 630 there in a more "normal" watch position not because I usually run with it there but to illustrate how far up the wrist the 235 is.
  • I wear my 235 about halfway between the two watches you show. The HR seems to be about right. When I donate platelets, they always do a heart rate check, and I then pop it up on my watch and it's within one or two beats. I keep it relatively tight, but not super tight. Super tight is only for when I run. (and I don't mean "cut off blood circulation" tight!) :-)
  • I wear my 235 in the normal watch position regardless if running or not. Haven't had any issues with the heart rate recording (as compared with Garmin heart rate strap using a different watch)
  • I wear mine in the normal wrist position, and I am right on the money or within 1BPM of my blood pressure machine.
  • Hello,
I carry mine in the same place as 630.

Before getting a 235 i had the 220+mio link combo, which i wore on my right arm inside wrist (220 closer to the wrist, mio above the 220). On my left wrist i wore a fitbit charge hr. Overall i felt like i was getting good readings with the mio and never thought twice about it.

When i got my 235 it replaced all three devices. I started out wearing it on my right wrist in the normal position. When out running i'd move it up slightly and tighten the band a notch or two (but not crazy tight).

Overall i got really good HR readings, aside from when my HR would get close to my cadence, where about 50% of the time i'd get the "lock" for 1-3 minutes before it would figure things out. Annoying, but not a deal breaker.

This last week i moved the 235 to where i used to wear the Mio (right arm inside wrist). This has reduced the instances of cadence lock a lot, although it's still happened. I'll continue to experiment. Also to note that now that i've become aware of it i see that the lock happens with the mio as well. It's just must faster to figure things out.

I'd really love to know if Garmin currently uses any filtering for cadence lock and whether they see this as a problem.

I wear mine in normal watch position. Left wrist, outside, just clearing the nobbly bone.

I've been injured and have only done one run with it but I'm pretty happy with all aspects of the watch including the HRM.
  • For normal wear I have it where the 630 is in Tims photo, but when running I move it up a tad to about halfway between the two.

    Inside of the wrist

After having very mixed results on the outside of my left wrist (cadence lock and cold weather low HR) I switched to the inside of my left wrist. The last few runs I have been very pleased with the results.

The oHRM finally tracks with my increasing and decreasing heart rate as my workload increases & decreases (going up and down hills). I think I must have a decent amount of hair on the tops of my forearms and the undersides are completely bare. I think the sensor is getting much better light reception on the inside of my wrist.

We'll see next week how it performs on some intervals I have planned, but I'm pretty optimistic now.

Good idea for a thread. My 235's HR has been flawless through 500ish miles - whether slow, fast, temps in the 20s through 60s, cold/windy rain, you name it. Here's where I wear it and, perhaps more importantly, here's what my skin looks like immediately after taking it off. I suspect a lot of people dealing with inaccuracies think that they're wearing it tight - and probably are compared to their day-to-day watch - but really aren't wearing it tight enough for the desired precision. I still have a faint watch imprint an hour post-run, even after I shower.

I personally don't have any discomfort wearing it this tight. I'll take the imprint over the chest-strap chafing any day.

Spot on! I suspect the same thing. I worked this out a day or two into getting my watch. It has to be tight enough to not move. The more vigorous the activity the tighter you have to wear it.
