230 with P90X

Hello,

This is my first posting here.

For some reason, my previous post has some issues (even after posting here).

Just bought a new 230 which also comes with a garmin premium chest strap.
I'll be primarily doing P90X/Insanity/Max 30 and start my running sessions outdoors beginning March.

Did P90X - Core Synergistics last night and wanted to post my results here for evaluation. I used the "Other" workout with required Data fields. I also have couple of questions:

1. Initially, the external garmin chest strap was dropping out and then after 10 mins into the workout, it was pretty stable.
1. In the "Other", I need to turn off GPS as I'm doing P90X/Insanity indoors. Didn't find a way to turn it off.
2. Wanted to check to see what is the optimum way of setting up the watch for the above mentioned exercises.
3. The brightness seems to be slightly dim when doing indoors. had to turn on the backlight each time to look into the stats.

Also, eyeing on Fenix 2 or the 235 with Wahoo Tickr (not the TickrX). Does Fenix 2 support the same kind of exercise I had mentioned above?

Appreciate assistance.

Thanks.

    Nobody?

It will immensely help me in my goal.

    Thanks.
  • 1. you need to wet the connections on chest strap before exercising inorder to get a good connection.
    2. To turn GPS off in the other activity you need to go to. Other , Menu , Activity Settings , GPS, select off.
3.IMO this would really be a personal opinion , what i like might not be what you like but i would think the key fields would be overall time , heart rate and heart rate zones.

The 235 is the same as the 230 but with the built in optical HRM. Since you already have a 230 + chest strap not to sure why you would want to change to the 235 + chest strap.

I do not know anything about the Fenix 2 sorry

    Hi,

    Thanks for your reply.

I think I see your point. When I initially started to exercise, I wasn't sweating. The moment I started to sweat, I think the external HRM would have started to be consistent with the heart rate reading. Btw, can I just use plain water to wet the connections?

Wanted to also know if those numbers you see in the attachments seems to be valid or skewed for the specific type of exercise I did.

The brightness indoors is killing my liking of 230. May get Fenix 3 as I can control the brightness up to 100%. Any comments on that?

I think you're right. I don't need the built in HRM as it may not be reliable.

    Appreciate comments.

    Thanks.

I have the same watch the 230 and I use with a Garmin soft HRM chest strap the only advice I can give is..

    1. make the strap a little bit tighter than you think you need and always wet it before working out. Also always wait until it finds heart rate before starting activity.
    2. set up the other activity as Data screens/screen 1/ 2 fields/ time of day and timer. Screen 2/ 1 field and use a IQ date field called heart rate with time in zone. this tells you you heart rate and what zone you in and how long for. Which you download from IQ store.
