Elliptical or spin bike?

What is the best way to track these indoor machines? I know the watch has indoor running mode for treadmill. I read a foot pod wont work on an elliptical. Will a heart rate monitor help? I read about a Wahoo heart rate strap that might work, but heard it doesn't send much data through the Garmin watch - only heart rate, no cadence info - and its $100. I also take spin classes. I don't see any way to get that to work either.

    Have the same question :(
  • Pick up a HR Strap - Put the watch on Other - customize the screens to your liking. I use Timer - HR - Avg HR and press start!

That's really all you can do! - I use the Indoor Bike and other type gym equipment often and the watch does everything I need to record the activity.

I attached a GSC-10 speed/cadence sensor to my elliptical. It worked great. Unfortunately, in Garmin Connect, when you reclassify your workout as "Elliptical", it does not display the cadence information.

    DR

I have used it only 2 times for n indoor activity, a spinning bike.

What I did was choose "Other" and then just edit it to indoor cycling on my PC; thing is that first time everything came out great, 2nd time, today, not so much as somehow my Garmin displayed almost half a mile of movement, which is absurd as I was sitting on a stationary bike. Go figure.

I use indoor running mode on the elliptical and get reasonable pace and distance data. However, I don't hold the handle bars, I just let my arms swing as if I'm running.

For bike, I just use the other mode to track HR (I have a FR235), time and calories.

Went for a third ride on the stationary bike and my activity shows a little more than half a mile of distance with certain elevation.

Is there a way to disable, momentarily, the GPS during activities such as stationary cycling?

Do you have the latest firmware for the watch as this fixed the GPS data for indoor ride. Also do you have the activity called bike indoor, I use this and paired with my HRM I get no GPS data just heart rate when synced when using the stationery bike in the gym. If you don't see the bike indoor activity go to settings/activity profiles and check to see if it turned off.
  • Thanks everyone. I have been just using the "other" activity with my HRM strap. Wonder if they make a bike sensor that can be easily taken on/off the bikes at the gym?
  • seems like you get your spin bike?
