Calibrate indoor run?

Just bought my first Garmin. I noticed there was a stride calibration for walking. Is there one for running? I have not run outdoors yet. Ran on treadmill today using the treadmill setting and it was quite a bit off. I am assuming it is my stride. I don't have a foot pod. I wanted to just use the watch.

Thanks

Jason.
  • On my Garmin Mobile app (iOS) just below the walking stride length there is a setting for running stride length.

In general though the watch comes with a generic setting pre-set and will adjust itself to your mechanics as you do more runs outside with GPS. That way it knows how many steps you've taken over a given distance and computes stride length based on that and will use it when running on a treadmill.

Thanks. Whatever section I was in last night only showed walking, not running.
  • The watch self calibrates for indoor running when you run outside using GPS. It basically models arm swing to pace. As you have not run outside yet that sort of explains it...

Just found two "User Settings" in the connect app. One is under the main settings tab and the other is under the device settings. The one in the device settings just has walking calibration. The one under the main settings has a walking and a running.

With snow on the ground right now, I will be stuck indoors for a while. If I manually calibrate, will the gps still try and calibrate once I run outside again or will I have to turn the calibration off?
