Soft rebooting the FR235?

Had a Connect IQ App crash this morning and have noticed a few abnormalities since including a doubling of the battery discharge rate during watch only mode as well as a doubling of the calories counted.

I am looking for something like a soft reboot - which will just restart the watch and leave all data intact.

I've read in the manual (http://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/forerunner230/EN-US/GUID-FE7137DB-B929-4BD6-B76F-EC5E27AD50B31.html) that:
If the device stops responding, you may need to reset it.
NOTE: Resetting the device may erase your data or settings.

Hold for 15 seconds.

The device turns off.
Hold for one second to turn on the device.

"Erasing your data" is not what I want... is there another way to do a soft reboot to just get the watch software back to a (hopefully) known state?
  • try just turning it off and back on. Hold the light button until it says "power off?", and select yes. When it's off, press the light button again to turn it back on.
  • Just turning it off and back on like Jim said will restart the watch without losing your step count or data screen configurations that you've set up, but you will lose the last 4 hours of 24/7 HR monitoring.

Thanks to the member who put the "hold the button down for 15 seconds" idea out there. It has solved my HR 66 issue!
I had not received a heart rate reading other than 66 since receiving my FR235 on 12/14. I was about to return it for a refund, but out of desperation I tried it. Nothing to lose, right?
So I held down the power key for 15 seconds (or thereabout), until the unit shut down, waited a few seconds, and restarted the device. Once it restarted my heart rate immediately showed readings different than 66. Yay! I'll still have to monitor the situation since this just happened a few minutes ago and there have been numerous tales of 235's reverting to HR 66 after docking with computers etc. But I'm encouraged at last.
I don't really know why it worked, but maybe it actually made my recent firmware updates kick in (3.25 and 2.40). That's my only suggestion.
