How to read notifications during traininig?

Hi all,
while my Garmin is in training mode (eg. in Running mode) I see the notifications, but it seems impossibile to me to go through the message without stopping the training mode and going back to watch mode: is it somehow possible?

  • Seems like you have to stop the timer to access the notifications.

Not entirely sure if that is because they need to limit the functions available mid run or some safety thing. Probably the former as you can access the notifications list mid run on a 920 or 630. On a 630 you can't access Locations mid run by any means!

Guess you could always pull your phone out to read the full details...

Uhm, thanks for the reply, hope it will be fixed in some next firmware release... I was hoping not to reach the phone while running! ;-)
  • I hope they fix this too.

I was out during a half marathon race yesterday and my watch kept vibrating and beeping to tell me I had a notification (usually a text or Facebook message as I had set up live tracking and my GF was texting me encouragement) but all I could see was who had sent the message (SMS or Facebook PM) or what kind of message it was (Facebook comment). It would've been much better to be able to read the text like you can when the watch is in watch mode.

You can actually read the message, but the only catch is you have to press the left "down" button while the notification pops up on the watch. Then you can press the run (I think) button to read more.

Thanks for that, i always wondered but was too afraid to randomly hit buttons while out on a run and mess up the recording. I'm assuming while you're in the message the usual stop and lap functions change, and only go back once you exit the message?

One option is you have head phones and carrying the phone is the speaking of notifications feature. In IOS https://gigaom.com/2013/05/17/ios-quick-tip-turn-on-spoken-notifications/ I assume android has something like it but I do not know. I haven't tried these personally though. I believe since iphone 6 it can be done thru siri (unless you jailbreak)

Edit: Obviously must be carrying the phone to get the notifications in the first place :)

    Thanks!

Like Darren, I didn't want to be pressing anything that may have messed up the recording! For ease though, it would be much better if it just filled the screen and we could then set the screen fill duration (5, 10, 15 secs etc) rather than having to reach over to press the button and potentially mess up running rhythm or whatever
