No clue what version I'm on!

I received my 235 six days ago. I connected it to the latest version of Garmin Express and it said I was up to date running v3.20, no updates available. When I first turned on my device, I got a message saying there was an update for WHR 2.30 on the watch (never on Garmin Express). I dismissed this update. This happened twice on day 1 and I haven't received that notification since. That being said, I assume my firmware is v3.20 with WHR v2.20. Today I was just messing around with the watch, went into settings & updates and it says v3.20 available, 2 mins to download and I'm currently on 3.10. I now have no clue exactly what firmware version I'm on or what software version the WHR is at? Anyone have any idea what's going on?

On your watch, Go to menu, settings, system, about. It will tell you what version is on your watch.

Yes, this is where I found v3.10 today. I left out "system" after "settings" in my original post. So, are you saying that Garmin Express is wrong whenever I connect to my laptop and it tells me I'm up to date with 3.20?

I think I might have figured out what's going on, but I'm hoping someone can validate my suspicion. Prior to receiving my 235, I was using the VSHR. In Garmin Express I checked "never" under automatically update my device. Is it possible that Garmin Express only downloaded v3.20 to my watch and "thinks" that I'm running that version even though I never manually installed it on my watch?

Yep. I'm the same. Due to the HRM issues in 3.20 in deliberately didn't install 3.20, but because I did a sync it downloaded 3.20 to the watch.

I'm trying to keep it that way until Garmin can sort their battery v HRM battle out! :p

Thanks. I'm going to do the same.
  • If you connect the watch to a computer, have a look in the GARMIN folder. If there is a firmware update pending you should see a GUPDATE.GCD file.

You may also see other files in REMOTESW which are typically software components like the sensor hub.

On that, AFAIK it was the update to the sensor hub that changed 24x7 behaviour not the 3.10-3.20 update.

note you can scroll down on that page to get more info, e.g. whrm version.

I do recall seeing the first file you mentioned. I'll have to take a look later for the others. After following several post even prior to receiving my 235, I suspected the 3.20 update wasn't the cause of the change in HR sampling; that it was the sensor hub v2.30 update. So, do you know what exactly the 3.20 update changed?
