Forerunner 235 and Music Control Issues with iPhone

Has anyone figured out how to control music on the iPhone? I can get to the menu showing the music controls (Play/Pause etc.) but none of the buttons on the FR235 do anything. I've tried using just the Apple Music App on the iPhone as well as other Apps (Google Play etc.) and I assumed the Connect app needed to be open as well on the iPhone.

I can't find a setting anywhere that refers to music control so not sure what to do at this point.

Update: I just got off the phone with customer support and they pretty much can't explain what is going on. First, the controls will only work with Apple's Music app (Not Spotify, Google Play, etc.). Both the Connect App and the Music App must be running on the phone. They watch must have already synced that day, apparently. And you have to start the music initially from the phone and then it should be controllable by the watch. I tried all of these things and it still will not work properly. All software updates are current. So, any suggestions appreciated.

Did you experienced that the volume of the music lows down when you ask the watch to alert you on the laps and then it doesn't get back to the previous volume?

Yep, it's a known issue and has been reported to Garmin

Remember hold the up direction button don't just press it then select music control - All you can control is previous - Next and Pause Play which can be useful if you run with your phone
Yes the music app ( on iPhone for me ) and the Garmin App must be running .
Works fine for me but I was just playing around seeing if it works because I don't run with a phone

Same problem

Just received my 235 yesterday, and I do also have a problem with the music control. I have the latest FW, but the music control hasn't worked at all. I've tried to have both the music app and the connect app open. I also have tried a factory reset, but it didn't solve it.

Please advice on what to do.

This also does not work for me on the 235. Poor software.

Did you ever find solution? On my FR35 and iPhone getting same issue press button for next track watch buzzes but nothing happens.
