Feature Requests and Suggested Improvements

Okay, completed my first run with my new Forerunner 235 and I'll start off with the following:

Speed Source from Foot Pod on outdoor runs please!

This would be a great addition to the watch. It was a nice improvement on the 920xt and the 235 could definitely stand to have the same feature.
  • Considering that the Garmin wearable devices all have quite stringent memory constraints, that is highly unlikely ti ever come to pass.

Would you like your watch to thank you and/or show appreciation just for 'participating' and tracking a run at all, then? Give you metallic coloured star stickers just for going through the motions, too?

Doesn't seem an unreasonble request, and could be easily done in GC. In fact Strava does something similar and automatically matches particular routes so you can compare times, and I actually find that really useful. Could we get that added into GC also please.

The request was for the feature to be implemented on the watch, not Garmin Connect that someone may or may not access hours or even days later, and only get to see it then (after possibly having uploaded multiple timed activities since the last time it was accessed by the user).

I didn't comment on whether it is unreasonable, by the way, but only that it's impractical and unrealistic.
  • I would like to see 2 changes, if they're possible -
    1. I'd like the ability to change activity settings during an activity. On my Forerunner 610 I could change settings (like alerts) without pausing & restarting.
    2. I would like for run/walk intervals to be more granular, at least 5 second increments rather than the :15 increments currently available.

I think Garmin knows the screen is too dim and the HR monitor is often wrong so I won't even go there.

I usually set upper and lower pace limits for my runs. The 235 warns me when I run outside those limits with a message on black background.
When I come back into the correct pace range, a new message warns me, but this is also on black background, wich could be confused with one of the previous (or, at least I am obliged to read it instead of giving only a quick look).
I suggest to change the colour of this background to better diversify from the other two. Why not using the current activity profile color?

The constraints are so tight that it's unrealistic to ask it to record 100 numbers or so? The memory requirements to do that are miniscule.

No, I'd just like to record my top 50 to 100 times. Go be rude to somebody else.
  • If you like stats then sync to Strava and then go to veloviewer.com. There are great stats there eg you can sort all of your data by mile or Km splits and various different race distances.

  • Would be great to be able to start/restart a live track after starting an activity - like a race - if the live track fails to start. Happened to me on Sunday...for a marathon which I almost PR'd! When it happens in training, it's no biggie, I'm able to start over...but in a race, once I've crossed that starting mat...nope, it's go go go! Thanks!
  • Hello! Date in black letter... White backgroud.
  • Please, correct algorithm that in 235 calculate base calories, because in a standard day this mean 300-400 calories more than real. For me (1.76m for 61Kg and 46bpm of rest beat) Garmin calculate 75 calories for hour in the night, when everyone know that must be less that 61! It's simply to calulate it because I calculate that from calories in and out and my weight (that don't change from my 3-4% of fat), I have mid 360 calories every day that Garmin calculate more than normal, or 15 calories for hour. Correct please!
  • Two requests:

    1. More after run achievements/compliments
    • Create weekly/monthly/yearly achievements
    • For example "fastest 5k this month"
    • It will be an easy to build feature and will give al lot of extra motivation
    2. Enable heart rate sensor setting per activityprofile instead of as a general setting
    • I use my Forerunner on my wrist for running, with HRM on
    • When cycling, my watch is attached on my steer (on a special Garmin holder)
    • Now I have to switch off HRM everytime I go cycling, and on again when I go running
    • Would be nice to move this setting per activity
