Feature Requests and Suggested Improvements

Okay, completed my first run with my new Forerunner 235 and I'll start off with the following:

Speed Source from Foot Pod on outdoor runs please!

This would be a great addition to the watch. It was a nice improvement on the 920xt and the 235 could definitely stand to have the same feature.
  • I don't think that is possible on the 235 due to battery life. It is however on the 935/Fenix 5 series.

Just purchased mine. Do you think we will ever see other sports profiles? Lots of my tracking is just "other".
  • I doubt the 235 will change significantly now. If you want more sports then the 935 has them all, but obvious you pay more for the privilege

    No.

Lots of my tracking will just be other.

    Are there plans to extend?

Don't look to Garmin for that, and don't expect it will be at no additional cost (in dollars, time and/or effort) to you and as easy as downloading something from the Internet and installing it, if you want more.

You're quite welcome to develop your own watch apps for tracking specific types of activity, tailored to suit your requirements and to your heart's content.

Maybe I should have gone to the Vivoactive HR? But this design is much better looking for a day to day watch.

The FR735XT allows creation of additional activity profiles, and has the same semi-round design as the FR235.

The new FR935 has the same casing shape and a round face, and is a far more capable device again.

So, what's more important? Choosing a price point and accepting you're limiting what you can use the purchased device for (at least out-of-the-box), or choosing a device model that meets more of your functional requirements and coughing up the asking price for it?

This is where Connect IQ can help. For example, there's no "walking" profile on the 235, but I got apps for that, where you can add a walking or hiking activity. Other types are also available in the app store.

Yep I got that app. Very impressive.
  • Smart notifications cover whole screen

While not during activities, the smart notifications cover the whole screen. This causes inconvenience to me when I want to read the time directly (i.e. without pressing any button). It would be better if the smart notifications can be configured to covering just the top of the screen, just like the "Move!" alert.

Reckon anything will ever be enhanced? I would be even happy having more exercise type choice as well as better sleep start time accuracy. Every other device does this MUCH better.

I don't know if it's been mentioned, and I'm relatively new to Garmin so let me know if I've missed this.

I very seldom set a pr, and I suspect that's true of most people. PR's are rare by definition. I wish my watch would record my top 50 or 100 times at different distances, and when I finish a run it would say, "Congratulations! This is your 41st-fastest 5K!" or whatever.

Considering that the Garmin wearable devices all have quite stringent memory constraints, that is highly unlikely ti ever come to pass.

and when I finish a run it would say, "Congratulations! This is your 41st-fastest 5K!" or whatever.

Would you like your watch to thank you and/or show appreciation just for 'participating' and tracking a run at all, then? Give you metallic coloured star stickers just for going through the motions, too?
