Feature Requests and Suggested Improvements

Okay, completed my first run with my new Forerunner 235 and I'll start off with the following:

Speed Source from Foot Pod on outdoor runs please!

This would be a great addition to the watch. It was a nice improvement on the 920xt and the 235 could definitely stand to have the same feature.

    Change GPS strength bar

In the dark I find it very hard to see if I have 5 bars of grey or 5 bars of green. Can you please try another visual approach. I suggest 5 gray dots, and (coloured) bars above that only display, when the strength the bar represent, have been reached.

Switch for turning on optical heart rate monitor during charging

My first problem with the Forerunner 235 is that it has no VARIA VISION support. I bought my first Foreunner 235 before VARIA VISION came out. In the GARMIN FORUM i was advised to buy the Forerunner 735xt or the vivoactive HR, which support VARIA VISION, but when I have to buy a new whatch to be able to use the VARIA VISION makes the VARIA VISION unattractive to me.

The second problem I have with the Forerunner 235 is that when I attach the charching cable and plug it in, the lights of the optical heart rate monitor turn off and the optical heart rate monitor stops working. I use the Foreunner 235 for 24 x 7 accurate heart rate measurement. With GPS turned off i can record sessions of 24h each without recharching. I would really appreciate when the firmware of the Forerunner 235 could be modified so that the optical heart rate monitor can be used also during charging. So I could attach a battery back and still use it until the Forerunner 235 is recharched. This modification i would really appreciate.

Another option is just a switch which allows to manually turn on the optical heart rate monitor during charching. Attached to a power source, the optical heart rate monitor of the Forerunner 235 turns off. A switch by which the optical heart rate monitor can be turned on during charching can make the Forerunner 235 a device that can be used as a device for 24 * 7 accurate heart rate monitoring. You only need additionally a power bank for recharging to carry with you.
  • Please make it easier to control the backlight on Garmin devices If I do a mix of runs during the day/night I have to go through about 4 menus to get to always on or timeout. It also gets disrupted by notifications so it isn't as simple as setting to always on and pressing the off button - when you get a notification it will come on permanently.

    Ideally I would request:
    1. The backlight settings (timeout, bcklight on alerts and wrist turn) are moved into the activity settings (at least by way of an override) so that you can set up seperate Run Daytime and Run Nighttime profile.
    2. Have a small lightbulb icon display on the watch when the backlight is actually on, as it is impossible to tell during the day.
    3. Make it possible to adjust the backlight setings off the pause menu once an activity is already started.

The backlight uses a huge amount of power and it really drains the battery when people aren't aware it is on during the day.
I've discussed this in more detail here :
    https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?369891-Backlight-Settings-Query

    Thanks
P.S. I now have a 735 rather than a 235 so please mak this fix on both models.

    notifications overload

    Suggestion to the notifications.

I'm using iOS 10 and Garmin Forerunner 235 updated with the latest software. In iOS I have control on which app is allowed to show notification on the phone. No problem there, but there are some notifications which I prefer not to be sent to the watch because there's far too many notifications eg. news app. Would be great if Garmin software allow finer control of which notifications are to be sent to the watch. If that's not possible, at least adding a clear all notifications option would be helpful. Its painful having to clear notifications one by one when its like 20 to 30 notifications.

Clearing notification in the Notification Centre on your iOS device should result in their also being cleared from the Garmin wearable device.
  • 2nd User Option

Option for a 2nd User to use the watch, without messing up my stats.
  • Option for a 2nd User to use the watch,
I'll gladly wager that option not happening, when the simple solution available to you today (and no doubt commercially preferable solution from Garmin's perspective) is to buy a second device for someone else to use independently. Suggestion options that allow or even encourage (current and potential) customers to spend less money with Garmin, but get more benefit without compromising on their wants as consumers, are not very likely to be accommodated now, if you actually thought about it.

Yes, and I put my money where my mouth is. I just bought a FR630 (HRM bundle) this month, so that my gf can now use the FR235 I've had for a year when she runs (but she won't ever wear a HR chest strap, so who uses which watch is a no-brainer).

Improved Heart Rate Graph in Garmin Connect

I would loe to have an improved heart rate graph in Garmin Connect where I can see my Lactate threshold once it is measured and also the corresponding zone to the heart rate so it is possible to easily see when I reach and how long I am in certain zones at speccific times during my workout instead of just having a total time in zone afterwards. This would be really helpful when planning a training to reach a specific training effect.
