Feature Requests and Suggested Improvements

Okay, completed my first run with my new Forerunner 235 and I'll start off with the following:

Speed Source from Foot Pod on outdoor runs please!

This would be a great addition to the watch. It was a nice improvement on the 920xt and the 235 could definitely stand to have the same feature.
  • But you're still using the Connect web interface to create the workout and Connect mobile to transfer it to the watch.
That was the very point that motivated me to post a reply. “On an iPhone”, “on an iPad” or “on a mobile device” does not logically mean using a specialised/custom app to meet a functional requirement (with particular UX expectations). Every time I see people equate the two, I'm inclined to do my best to point out a perfectly functional work-around on the device model(s) in question that pays no undue regard to the user's unstated preferences and misconceived logical equivalences.

I'm not criticising their UX preferences or questioning their prerogative to hold personal preferences, by the way. I'm merely pointing out the logical error in their thinking that is evidenced in their choice of words, so that they can feel (possibly unpleasantly) thwarted and go back to revise their wording/framing. Obviously, some (not meaning/including you) think that if I understood what they meant, I should simply let their error slip without pointing out the bloody obvious.

Before anyone accuses me of not being constructive, I am offering an effective work-around/solution that – again – is meant to disregard what is unimportant technically in matching procedure to outcome.

What I think the OP is talking about, and what I would like as well, is to be able to create the workout and do the transfer all from Connect mobile.

Yes! Thats it! More or less like Suunto as on the Movescount app.

Its a feature requests page. They are asking for a feature.
    Nothing wrong in that.

If you feel the need to be a smart arse about it at least try and be constructive and simply point out that you can use the web interface in a browser as a workaround. There's no need to tell them in several paragraphs that they have no right for that feature to be in the app. After all, if you took that view on all features in the app (such as just viewing activities) there wouldn't even be an app, everything would just be done in the web browser.

Based on your many responses throughout 2016 I wouldn't accuse you of not being contructive, but sadly cant really say on a public forum what I would accuse you of.

They're asking for it in the wrong way, when the outcome can already be accomplished “on iPhone”. They have made no indication whether they already know that, but simply cannot bring themselves to do what is necessary to achieve the outcome at present, and are asking to have things on their terms because they think that's just too onerous.

Oh, and that wasn't apparent in the screenshots I took the trouble to take, upload and link to? What do you think those showed?

Information I provide and contributions I make will, as a matter of course, only be offered on my terms, including both what people may find useful and those which they may find unaccommodating or confronting. It's up to them to either read it and pick out what is relevant or useful to them, or ignore my posts altogether without reading them.
  • Get the optical sensor to work on the 235

Thats all I want, so far is hopeless. So unreliable that borders on useless.:mad:

I'm not sure if this is already possible, or has been suggested already: allow adding new activity types via Garmin Connect Mobile, e.g. Walking.

I'm a new owner and so far find the heart rate comparable to my old Suunto watch with chest strap (which I haven't used in ages because a chest strap isn't convenient for me). I haven't compared them together, but it seems to be in the ballpark. 😀

New user here. Not sure if it's possible, if not please consider this a feature request, but can one add Activities to the watch (e.g. Walking) via Garmin Connect Mobile (Android) or by any other method? I can see that one can unhide some activities, or use "Other" but it would be great to customize these and have them sync with the appropriate categories in Garmin Connect. Thanks.
  • Walking can be added using a ConnectIQ app like Jim's Simple Walk or Hike app,

Thanks. I had seen those, but it seemed like functionality that could easily be added. Currently "Other" will do, but that requires editing the activity in Garmin Connect after syncing to put it in the correct category.
  • Thanks for the mention CW!

My sig is a link to my apps.
