Feature Requests and Suggested Improvements

Okay, completed my first run with my new Forerunner 235 and I'll start off with the following:

Speed Source from Foot Pod on outdoor runs please!

This would be a great addition to the watch. It was a nice improvement on the 920xt and the 235 could definitely stand to have the same feature.
  • Currently, when I received text with Chinese character, it will not display on the watch. Please add this important feature. This is a dealer breaker as I can imagine many users are bilingual and even trilingual/multilingual.
So buy a unit of a version that supports the feature already. It's available in the markets where Garmin thinks it's a deal-breaker to the consumer base. You have money (and I don't care if you want to part with it). On that basis, there is some point on which you can meet Garmin on that and satisfy your functional requirement.

For the avoidance of doubt, I live in Australia but Chinese in my mother tongue. However, that does not mean that I – as a consumer and Garmin customer – believe that all devices should support all languages to offer more flexibility and better value, instead of having regional coding and/or differentiation in features.

It would be really great if the user could influence the vibration alarm intensity. I would prefer a more decent alarm.

As a deaf person who depends on the vibration, and not the tones, This would be great. Also if we can vary vibration patters.
  • Display

As a runner coming from 610 I need:
LARGER FONT (would be enough in 3 fields configuration move the description on side to gain more height)
    AT LEAST 3 CONFIG SCREENS (Typically I used 1 for total:time,dist,avgpage 1 for IT:LapTime, LapDist 1 for Pace: LapPace,LastLapPace)

Because you removed Interval Training programming capabilities from the watch (TOO BAD), we need to be able to do everything we can from PC also through the Garmin Connect app.

About APP would be nice to have a visual APP maker for not programmers

I built a custom workout on Garmin Connect, synced it with my Garmin Forerunner 235.
When pausing the workout, and resuming it after some time, it loses track of the workout steps.
It seems to get back to a regular running mode.

i.e: Let's say I was training for a 45 min workout in HR Z3, defined on Garmin Connect, and that at start of run, it would show as a countdown timer.
Then I pause it after 15 min, I resume, and after having resumed, it gets back to normal running. (no countdown anymore, shows 15min, not 30min, no more HR alerts etc..).

Any idea how to correct this behavior? Could you fix that with next FW upgrade ?
    Thanks for your help.

Manual 'Sleep mode' (or maybe even more modes?)

Automatic sleep tracking sounds great, but it really sucks, even with those 'normal' times set up. The only solution, or at least an option, is the manual control!

Fenix 3 still has it in the menu (Settings > Activity Tracking > Sleep > On) and it works perfect. You can turn Sleep mode on when really going to bed and turn it off upon waking up. Plus, it enables nap tracking during the day. And the sleep picture is much more accurate.

FR 235 really misses this feature — please Garmin add the manual Sleep control!
Otherwise we get bad and sometimes creepy sleep hours.

On the Vivoactive HR this would be great to have as well! Now the sleep analysis is sort of pointed in the configured window but I don't have that sort of tight schedule ... Sometimes I go to bed early, sometimes I go to bed late. In the analysis my sleep is quite crapy if I have to believe it ;) So having a 'sleep modus' would be great! Maybe it would be a idea to have even more modes? Sleep, normal, sports for example? With different hardware settings? In the sleep mode please turn of the bluetooth by default. I don't like unnecessary radiation during my sleep. (and I've seen requests for different HR measurements in 'sports mode' comparing the 'normal mode'?)

Interesting (= buggy) thing is that taking my watch off is counting as sleep as well! For the analysis this is really deep sleep ... but actually the watch is not able to tell wether I'm sleeping or not at all!
  • Workout planner on iphone

Hello! Just an idea: plan workouts on iphone. Like Suunto! Apart that on that brand dosent work!

Why can't you today? I don't have an iPhone (and will not use one, if I have a say in the matter), but I have iPads (which I love, by the way), and it's certainly possible for me to create custom workouts on it and then send them to my FR235 over Bluetooth.

Just pick up my Iphone 5S and on the app appears: "... to create more exercices visit GarminConnect.com on a PC..."

But you're still using the Connect web interface to create the workout and Connect mobile to transfer it to the watch.

What I think the OP is talking about, and what I would like as well, is to be able to create the workout and do the transfer all from Connect mobile.
