Feature Requests and Suggested Improvements

Okay, completed my first run with my new Forerunner 235 and I'll start off with the following:

Speed Source from Foot Pod on outdoor runs please!

This would be a great addition to the watch. It was a nice improvement on the 920xt and the 235 could definitely stand to have the same feature.

    Force sync to phone app

I would like to have a button on the phone app (IOS) to sync to the watch. I like to review my run on my phone while I cool down, sometimes it will sync right away, sometimes it will take 10 to 15 minutes.

A hacky workaround, but I find if I open and close the iOS app 2-4 times, on one of those opens it will start syncing immediately.
  • Sync can be manually initiated from the FR230/235 watch's user interface

Why not just manually initiate sync from the Controls widget on your FR235, then? Up·Up·Up·Run·Up·Run from the watch face (for the way I've ordered the widgets on my watch).

We need manual Sleep Tracking switch (like Fenix has)!

Automatic sleep tracking sounds great, but it really sucks, even with those 'normal' times set up. The only solution, or at least an option, is the manual control!

Fenix 3 still has it in the menu (Settings > Activity Tracking > Sleep > On) and it works perfect. You can turn Sleep mode on when really going to bed and turn it off upon waking up. Plus, it enables nap tracking during the day. And the sleep picture is much more accurate.

FR 235 really misses this feature — please Garmin add the manual Sleep control!
Otherwise we get bad and sometimes creepy sleep hours.

If there is a way to sync from the watch face can you tell me where to navigate to please? up.up.up.run.up.run is not getting me to where I need to go.

Hello wbigelow! You just need to use the up / down buttons from the watch face to navigate to the controls widget. It is the widget that has the word "controls" at the top along with four icons (bluetooth, sleep, where's my phone, and sync). Then press "run". Next, scroll through the options using the up / down buttons until you get to "Sync". Then press run. The sync will start immediately (provided you have an active Bluetooth connection to your smart phone with the Garmin Connect app installed and linked to your FR235).

If, by chance, you cannot find the controls widget, then you will need to use either your mobile Garmin Connect App or the Garmin Express desktop application to add and enable the widget. After that it should be there and ready for use.

Thanks for the help, it worked perfect.

The Controls widget in this list: http://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/forerunner235/EN-US/GUID-97EA1540-A780-480F-BA4D-9A9E147FB225.html (which may not be presented in exactly the listed order, since the order is user-configurable, and individual widgets may be independently disabled or enabled).

Just to add to that, these are the icons (set out in a 2x2 matrix) to look for: http://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/forerunner235/EN-US/GUID-304F18BA-83B3-47B0-820D-117E99DA2DF3.html

Option to disable heart rate alerts

I'd like to have an option to disable HR alerting during workouts. Sometimes it doesn't really make sense to display alerts for target HR, e.g. if you do "Fartlek" running or are running in a hilly area. Currently, I switch off beeps and vibration as a workaround, but that's not what you want, as you don't see other alerts and it goes off the exercise screen to the alert screen - really annoying!

So please, add an option to suppress HR alerts!
  • Run>Activity Settings>Alerts>Heart Rate>Off

Really though by default there shouldn't have been any on when you bought the watch so the only reason there would be one on is if you set it.
