Feature Requests and Suggested Improvements

Okay, completed my first run with my new Forerunner 235 and I'll start off with the following:

Speed Source from Foot Pod on outdoor runs please!

This would be a great addition to the watch. It was a nice improvement on the 920xt and the 235 could definitely stand to have the same feature.

    - long hold on back button to watch screen (far too many clicks to get from deep in settings back to watch, plus fatigue on hardware a concern)

THIS THIS THIS. Such a simple thing would make navigating the menus so much better. It's not just from the settings either; some widgets require clicking all the way back as well. Frustrating as hell.
  • Features I'd love to see

I've only had my watch for a few days, so I'm not entirely familiar with its full capabilities yet, however here are two features/changes I'd love to see.

AUDIO PROMPTS for Heart Rate Zones:
This was one of the main reasons I bought this watch, I thought it DID have audio prompts for Heart Rate Zones and was so disappointed to see it only had audio prompts for laps *SIGH*. I have been using a Scosche HRM with the iCardio App for years and having audio prompts for Heart Rate Zones while running was awesome.

AUDIO WARNING for max heart rate: loved this feature with my Scosche HRM(now deceased) and iCardio app.

MENU: like others have requested before. It's just not logical where it currently sits. This location had me thinking WTF(unction)?!..why is this here? It would definitely make more sense to have it located via a long press up-arrow button.

That's it for now. Loving this watch so far.

Audio prompts for HR zones - I have an alert that goes off when I'm outside of my HR range... did you just want something that sends a notification every time you cross from one zone to another?

    FAQ Wanted!

I would like to see a FAQ as to how the watch and GC interprets data and results. E.g. RHR, calories on the daily steps line in GC, are steps relevant at all in calorie calculations or is it all HR based, how does max HR affect results, what is the significance of entering sleep time etc etc. There is a lot of questions and speculation around the watch and GC reporting and people may or may not be jumping to the wrong conclusions or are at a loss to what the data means An FAQ would definitely help here. Oh and it would probably help the helpdesk as well as they typically don't know the answers to these kind of questions.

    this. please make it so.
its a really simple request. doesnt require much effort at all and would help clear up some of the current confusion.

+1 from me as well. There's no reason to keep this secret, and many of us use other services as well (e.g. myfitnesspal) for which knowing how Garmin determines its numbers is almost necessary.
  • Sleep tracking needs a serious overhaul.

It thinks I'm asleep when I'm working a physical job, and often doesn't pick up if I wake and get up during the night.

Last night as an experiment I left it on the bathroom benchtop when I went to bed to see what it did.

It told me I had 8 hours of solid deep sleep!

Compared to Fitbit Charge HR (which is less sophisticated and not as good build quality), the sleep tracking is woeful. Fitbit nailed it every single night.

Please Garmin, reconfigure the sleep tracking.

Of course it saw sitting in the counter as being deep sleep. It makes a guess on how deeply you're sleeping by how much you move. If it doesn't detect movement during the hours you've told it you normally sleep it's going to see it as deep sleep.

The Move! feature needs a bit of tweaking as well. For example, I got up at 7:30 this morning. Wandering around the house, doing a few chores, getting breakfast etc. Just sit down to eat it and I get the Move alert! Wtf, I hadn't even sat down in that hour... Now presumably (and again this is why we need a FAQ) the 235 is not registering small amounts of steps and is assuming that you are being idle, hence the alert.

Yes but it also can't read your heart rate since you're not wearing the watch so it should be pretty easy to figure out that you're not sleeping.
