Feature Requests and Suggested Improvements

Okay, completed my first run with my new Forerunner 235 and I'll start off with the following:

Speed Source from Foot Pod on outdoor runs please!

This would be a great addition to the watch. It was a nice improvement on the 920xt and the 235 could definitely stand to have the same feature.

if you run out of battery it should save the run automatically. Have you observed it not doing this?

I've not run out of battery on a run yet, but I'm glad to hear that this is the case. I just read some other people saying they'd stopped runs early because they got a low battery warning in case the run didn't save, so I just assumed that it wouldn't save in this case - more fool me I suppose. I'm still getting used to this watches many features.
  • Charge Status in Connect Mobile App

I'd like the current battery percentage to be shown in the Connect Mobile App. This should update via Bluetooth periodically while charging..and alert my phone once fully charged if possible.

    Good point.
  • Shhh - don't tell Garmin - they will probably remove the ability on the next update (as it's not written anywhere!). As everyone says there are only two customisable data screens #1 & #2.

    • Download the "Heart Rate and Zone" IQ Connect App. Then start an Activity.

    • Go to the Heart Rate Data Screen (the one with two data fields: HR at the top and zone on the bottom).

    • Hold down the up-key until you see the "Edit Data Fields" option... then select Field 1 and then select "Connect IQ" and then "Heart Rate and Zone".

This will replace the redundant HR Data Field with a semi-circle version on the "Heart Rate and Zone" App. I then have "Avg. %HRR" beneath - but you could have anything.

This allows the customisable Data Screen #1 & #2 to be used for other important data.

    Shhh - don't tell Garmin!

Why Shh.... I doubt garmin doesn't know. but.. who know I could be wrong.

The FR235 is only my second Garmin device. My first was an FR310xt which had one feature which I would like to see on this watch. All activities were automatically saved so there was never a danger of losing data if the battery ran out during a run i.e you finished a run and pressed stop and that was it - no saving required. I'm sort of aware that most running watches (like my wifes FR10) require you to save an activity after finishing. I was just wondering why the automatic save is not a common feature?

my guess is that most people won't want auto save when you stop. Once can't presume what the user wants to do hence this behaviour. make the user choose.
  • Bring Virtual Pacer Back!

Virtual Pacer (with Alarm, ahead/behind field)

    and

Option to use Heart Rate Monitor ONLY during an activity. (No Activity Tracking or 24x7 Monitoring).
  • > I was just wondering why the automatic save is not a common feature?

If the battery runs out during an activity it is saved.
  • > Go to the Heart Rate Data Screen (the one with two data fields: HR at the top and zone on the bottom).

Yeah I like a 2 field screen with current and lap pace so use this one. If I want to see my HR can just move along to the HR gauge page and/or configure a HR data field on screen 1 or 2.
